Homemade Valentine's Day Card Crafts

Valentine's Day Crafts Your Kids Can Make

Meagan G
Valentine's Day is a day for love. Every February 14, people everywhere, young or old, can show each other a little sweetness and affection. And of all the people in your life, who could possibly be sweeter than your children? So why not share the day with your kids by creating these adorable and simple Valentine's Day crafts that they can share with their classmates and friends?

School children have been sharing Valentine's Day cards with each other for as long as many of us can remember. Forego the drugstore monotony of cardboard Barbie and Looney Toons with these easy to make lollipop Valentine's.

What You'll Need:
Lollipops (However many you decide to make)
Tape or Glue
Pencil
Safety Scissors
Construction paper in green, red, and pink (Or any other colors if they're feeling creative)

Steps:
Help your child draw some leaves onto the green construction paper and hearts onto the other colors. Using the safety scissors, let your child cut out all of the shapes. Next, have them write a simple message on the front side of each heart. Take a lollipop and glue or tape it to the back side of each heart. Finally, glue some leaves onto the stem of each lollipop.

Now you have a cute, personalized, Valentine's Day card for each of your child's friends.

The heart shape has been a symbol of love for centuries. The heart has always been considered the symbol of passion and love, and has appeared on Valentine's cards for decades. This fluffy, fun heart-shaped Valentine's Day craft is an ideal craft to make with your children.

What You'll Need:
Pencil
Construction paper
Glue
Scissors (or safety scissors for younger crafters)
Pink and White (or any other color that appeals to you) tissue paper - cut into 1" squares.

Steps:
Draw out a heart on the construction paper and cut it out. Using one piece of tissue paper at a time, place your finger on the center of the square. Twist the tissue paper up and around your finger. Dip the bottom (now the only flat surface on the tissue paper) into glue and place it on the heart. (The basic design would be to fill the center of the heart with white tissue paper, and the outside with red. But any other design would look just as cute.) Repeat this process until tissue paper covers the front of the heart. Let dry.

Now you have a fun fluffy heart that can be used as a Valentine's Day card or just a cute decoration.

Flowers are often used to symbolize love, whether it be a budding puppy love or a long-standing romance. Everyone loves a beautiful flower, especially one with a sweet surprise. So, why not help your child make this chocolate kiss craft this Valentine's Day?

What You'll Need:
Pipe Cleaners
Scissors
Tissue paper (any color that catches your fancy) cut into about 7 by 10" squares
Hershey's Kisses

Steps:
For each flower, take about six sheets of tissue paper and individually accordion fold each piece, and then place them side by side. Next, take a pipe cleaner and twist it around the middle of the group of tissue paper. Make sure to leave some piper cleaner sticking out, as this will be the flowers stem. Fan out the tissue paper so that it resembles a carnation. Finally, glue a chocolate kiss into the center of the flower.

And there you have a sweet little flower for each of your child's classmates.

Finally, if your child would like to, he or she can add little Valentine's Day wishes to their homemade crafts before handing them out to their friends and classmates. To personalize their Valentine's Day crafts just a little bit more, here's how to say "I Love You" in a few different languages:

Spanish:
Te Amo

French:
Je t'aime or Je t'adore

German:
Ich liebe Dich

Hawaiian:
Aloha Wau Ia 'Oe

Russian:
Ya vas liubliu

Italian:
Ti voglio bene

I love these ideas, Meagan! I didn't buy Valentine's cards this year for my daughter's class, and I can definitely use these. Your instructions are easy to follow, and I like how you added the various ways to say "I Love You". This is a five-star article, and I'm adding you to my favorites! BTW - Welcome to AC!
