Valentines Day is more than simply chocolate hearts and roses. It is a time of year to show your loved ones just how much you care. Homemade Valentine's Day gifts do all that and more. They are a thoughtful and inexpensive way to show your appreciation for the special people in your life. Homemade Valentine's Day gifts add the personal touch that store-bought gifts lack, and they have an originality that is just as unique as your Valentine.

Valentine's Day gifts do not have to be elaborate or expensive. Craft ideas can be as simple as recycling a glass jar or small box into a decorative presentation for candy or flowers, or creating a personalized Valentine scrapbook page dedicated to your special someone. Bookmarks and cards are simple paper projects, and love coupons are something everyone loves to receive. For something a little fancier, consider styrofoam. Try covering styrofoam hearts with romantic scrapbook paper and decorating with lace, dried flowers, or other embellishments. Adding a simple ribbon makes it a wonderful Valentine's wall hanging. Covering the styrofoam with simple craft glue and sprinkling it with whole peppercorns or other spices can make a special gift for the kitchen. A more inventive idea is to cut a sponge into a heart and sprinkle it with grass or flower seeds to grow the perfect Valentine's garden.

Childrens Valentine's craft ideas can be a simple as Valentine's Day mailboxes to collect cards and notes, and are made simply by decorating larger boxes with papers, stickers, and stamps. Adding glitter can be a fun idea, though a little messy. Coloring sheets are readily available online and in stores, and frames for their pictures can be made out of simple cardboard. Decorating the frames is an added Valentine's Day craft bonus.

Baking Valentine's goodies is a fantastic way for both children and adults to make Valentine's Day a tasty treat for all. Cookies, cakes, and even cupcakes make perfect gifts for uncles, aunts, and grandparents, and even schoolteachers and the mailman. Cookie treat bags add a special touch, and are another easy homemade craft idea. Two simple hearts cut of out card stock can be sewn together as easily as threading ribbon through holes punched around the edges. Leaving the top open with make them a perfect pouch to hold cookies, candies, and other treats.

Decorating your home is easy with homemade Valentine's crafts too. Valentine's garland can be made with paper and ribbons, and simple wreaths can be made out the red and white plastic bags used by many stores. Painted stones can add to your Valentine's Day display.
