Homemade Varicose Vein Cream

Abby Willow

Varicose veins can afflict any person at any time, but approximately 25% of the population actually has this circulatory issue (webmd.com). While varicose veins can be embarrassing and unsightly, the bigger issue behind them is the lack of proper support of the vein wall and the pain associated with the lack of circulation. While taking measures to prevent varicose veins in the first place is key (avoiding standing for too long periods at a time, keeping a healthy weight so there is less pressure on the feet and legs, and wearing looser socks help), you can help to fade varicose veins and improve circulation in your legs with a homemade varicose vein cream. Learn how to make your own varicose vein cream, quick and easy!

Simply add witch hazel to your daily moisturizer to your legs, and that is all you need. Witch hazel has actually been proven in animal studies to strengthen the vein walls, which improves circulation in the veins themselves and helps prevent varicose and spider veins from forming in the first place. Witch hazel also is great for closing the swollen veins and making them less apparent while encouraging better blood circulation at the same time.

Witch hazel not only relieves the pressure of varicose veins by improving the circulation in the veins themselves, but witch hazel strengthens the vein walls so future varicose veins can't occur as easily. Since witch hazel shrinks veins (making it a great treatment for burst veins as well and bruises), it lessens the appearance of current varicose veins and makes the likelihood of future veins less of a concern.

Take your regular moisturizer for your legs (Vitamin E-based lotion is great) and add equal parts witch hazel and the lotion to another bottle and shake well. Apply to your legs twice daily and for better results be sure to consume a Vitamin C supplement daily as well (Vitamin C improves circulation from the inside-out). You can also apply witch hazel directly to your varicose veins and then apply a moisturizer with witch hazel in it afterwards to increase the ability of the witch hazel to improve your varicose veins. Allow 4-6 weeks for beginning results, and continue using witch hazel to improve your vein health overall.
