Homeopathic Acne Remedies

Antimonium crudum: Frequent indigestion and a white-coated tongue coupled with remarkable thirst.

Calcarea sulphurica: For long-lasting acne with creamy pus every day; lesions found not only on face but on ear lobes.

Kali bromatum: Acne is aggressive with blue-red pimples leaving scars; pimples tend to occur on the forehead, shoulders and back, rarely on the lower part of the face.

Lachesis: Many pimples over the face with purple lesions which leave a purplish scar; more lesions found on the left side of the face.

Ledum: Eruptions on the face include small pimples at the base nose root.

Sulphur: Chronic reoccurrences of acne with rough, hardened skin; oily face and washing with water seems to make the condition worse.

Research Trends

Studies on the efficacy of this treatment have been mixed. However, a Japanese study of homeopathy for acne and other chronic skin diseases found that 88.3 percent of patients in the group reported over 50 percent improvement [1].
A homeopathic lotion described in another study is prepared from Calendula and Fumaria tinctures, with improvement reported after 3-4 days of treatment [2].

A number of homeopathic practitioners and providers focuse on acne cures but also tend to look at the whole body. For example, Dr. Santosh Joshi says, "Acne should not be treated with external applications because the cause is an internal disorder. If you try to treat the acne by external applications there are chances that you might suppress the disease and this is not good for the overall health of the individual" [3].
