There are prescription medications that can help with anxiety, stress, jetlag and more but often these pills have to be taken up to 2 weeks in advance of travel. Even if you decide to use a prescription for your flight maladies you may still have to remain using it long after you've arrived at your destination and probably until you get home again. Luckily, there are plenty of homeopathic natural remedies to help prevent these issues from occuring and provide help should you become suddenly ill.
For many people anxiety is the number one reason they don't enjoy flying. From turbulence to operational noises there are many things that can make an already frightened passenger freak out. If you are one of these people you may want to consider a homeopathic remedy that provides instant relief and can be used repeatedly without fear of dangerous side effects. It is best to work with a certified homeopathic doctor so you get an accurate remedy for your symptoms. Anxiety can be treated internally with the use of plants like Valerian, Passion Flower, Actoninum, and Chamomile.
These soothing herbs will provide a lasting calming effect on jumpy nerves and will not leave you feeling drowsy or hung over after your flight. Look for a natural aid that has some or all of these ingredients and dissolves quickly for fast relief. Try looking at your local health food store or vitamin store for these natural supplements. Before starting any herbal supplementation you should talk to your doctor about possible dangers. Just because it is natural or homeopathic does not make it safe for every person. Herbal supplement use will vary greatly from one person to another and what works for someone else may not work for you.
Treating your anxiety by drinking excessive amounts of alcohol may also calm your nerves but you may end up feeling sick mid flight. Even if you think you feel fine you may end up with a post flight hangover. As we all know, a hangover is not fun at all. Avoid taking prescription medications to treat in flight or pre flying anxiousness. You may end up with unwanted side effects and it is likely you will have to take the pills for several weeks. If you can, find a natural remedy that closely matches your symptoms.
A great book for helping you discover your ailments is Balch and Balch's Prescription for Nutritional Healing. A couple of pages into the book there is a chart outlining varying illnesses and symptoms. After discovering what it is you suffer from just turn to the page and you will be provided with homeopathic remedies and herbal supplement reccomendations. It is reccomended to buy a copy of this book and keep it handy as it can be useful for all sorts of ailments.
Most homeopathic remedies will give you relief in less than 20 minutes. Many herbal remedies wear off in just a couple of hours so you won't end up feeling drowsy post flight. Of course, it always helps to prepare for your vacation or trip by being well rested, drinking plenty of water, and eating nutritous foods. A week prior to air travel you should be careful to avoid caffiene, sugars, and alcohol.
Doing this will help give your immune system a boost helping you avoid sickness from communicable diseases which can be easily spread in a cabin. To give your immune system an even bigger boost take vitamin supplements that contain zinc, vitamin c, and echinacea. Taking care of your body and your health will help you fight off colds, upper respiratory conditions, and other air contaminants.
If jetlag is a problem you may experience you may want to prepare in advance. Many people traveling east to west or vice versa experience bouts of jetlag. Melatonin supplementation may be helpful and there are many therapies for helping your body produce more of it. Melatonin is produced by the brain when there is optical exposure to light. There are glasses you can purchase that shine two colored lights into your eyes your a set amount of time. Doing this helps your body produce more melatonin at the times you want it to.
You will have to see a doctor and be able to afford the glasses, but if you can they are worth it. There are also other light therapy methods that consist of sitting under a sun lamp for several hours a day and even changing your sleep patterns to match your destination schedule. One or more of these therapies combined will help you fight jet lag and arrive ready to go.
A severe in flight ailment that fewer people experience is deep vein thrombosis or DVT. DVT can be hard to detect because it may not produce symptoms until several hours after the flight. DVT can be dangerous to the heart and other major body organs. DVT occurs when a blot clot starts forming in the leg or thigh and eventually can break off and cause severe damage. DVT is caused by sitting for long periods of time with little or no movement in the legs. The risk increases with family history of clotting problems, pregnancy, and past leg trauma or surgery. The risk of getting DVT also increases with age and those over 40 are more likely to suffer from this ailment.
A person suffering from DVT may exhibit sweating, breathlessness, sore and tender muscles, skin that is red or hot to the touch, and rapid heart beat long after a flight. Immediate medical treatment should be sought if any person exhibits these symptoms any time after taking a flight. Becuase DVT is hard to detect, there is little you can do to prevent it from happening.
Getting up and walking the aisles every once in a while can't hurt and will help improve circulation in your legs. While you are up raise onto your toes and back down onto your heels a couple of times. This will help stretch out the muscles and keep them from tensing up. It may also help to wear comfortable socks and shoes because tight or resticting footwear will constrict circulation in the feet and lower legs.
It is always best to work closely with your doctor or homeopathic specialist when trying to find an herbal or natural fix for flying illnesses. This advice will help you avoid sickness and arrive at your destination healthy and happy. Don't let your fear of flying or the thought of in flight nausea stop you from having a great vacation or trip. With the help of homeopathic and herbal remedies you too can start your trip off on the right foot!
