Your sinuses can easily become blocked with pollutants that are found in the air and in your home. Things like smoke, dust, mold, pollen, and other pollutants can spell disaster for someone with sensitive sinuses or allergies. The best way to rid yourself of sinus problems and allergies is to remove those pollutants from your sinuses and from your body.
You must first start by taking care of yourself from the inside out. This means that you should always eat right and exercise. Try to get at least 5-8 servings of fruits and vegetables each and every day. Eat plenty of fiber rich foods and stay away from refined sugars and starches. Exercise at least 3 times per week. Taking care of your body in these ways will boost your immune system and help your body to fight off any infections that may develop.
Once you've developed a healthy lifestyle, you can begin to cleanse your sinuses using all natural and homeopathic remedies. If you feel sinus pressure or congestion coming on, you should boil some apple cider vinegar. Once the vinegar boils, remove it from the stove and lean over the pot of hot vinegar. Take a moist towel and wrap it around your head so that you are breathing in the vinegar vapors. Breathe deeply through your nose for several minutes. This will open up your sinuses and get rid of the congestion and sinus pressure you are experiencing. However, if your nose is overly sensitive or if you've been blowing your nose frequently, this method of treatment might cause you to feel a slight burning sensation since the vinegar is acidic.
Another natural remedy is to use a neti pot. You can find these at most major drugstores. A neti pot looks like a very small tea pot. You simply mix a solution of salt water using pre-made packets that come with the neti pot. Then, you tilt your head all the way to one side and place the nozzle of the neti pot in the opposite nostril. You then pour the solution into your nose. The solution will go up your nostril and through your sinuses, and will pour out of the nostril on the other side, cleansing your sinuses on the way. You then turn your head to the other side and repeat the process with the other side of your nose. This is one of the best ways to clean out your sinuses and remove the pollen and pollutants that may have accumulated in there. It can also be a fairly disgusting thing to watch, because if your sinuses are clogged or infected, you will see large chunks of mucus coming out of your nose. It's amazing what is trapped in your sinuses sometimes just waiting to come out.
If you have a sinus infection, and not just sinus congestion, you can add one teaspoon of 3% hydrogen peroxide to the salt water mixture. The addition of the peroxide will kill the bacteria lurking in your sinuses and after using this technique for a few days, you will completely kill the sinus infection and avoid having to make a trip to the doctor to get antibiotics.
Another way to relieve allergies and sinus pressure is to utilize the pressure points in your body. Simply hold your hand out with your palms up and start with your pinky finger. Gently apply pressure to the base of your pinky and work your way up to the tip, and then repeat this process with all the other fingers on your hand, ending with the thumb. Doing this will release some of the pressure in your head and allow you to breathe better.
The last homeopathic solution to use for allergies and sinus pressure is to take colloidal silver. This is a supplement you can find at most drug stores and nutrition stores. It is simply silver particles suspended in water. Silver is known to be a natural antibiotic. And many people believe that taking colloidal silver in small quantities can be beneficial and will kill bacteria such as the kind you get when you have a sinus infection. This supplement is also available in nasal sprays to ensure that the solution gets into your sinuses. If you use this method, it's best to talk to your doctor first to determine what amount is safe to take. Taking too much colloidal silver can cause a condition known as argyria. People with this condition have a bluish tinting of their skin. The discoloration can be moderate or severe, depending on how much colloidal silver they've ingested. That's why it's best to talk to a doctor before starting colloidal silver therapy.
