There are many types of hardwood floors on the market. As with all wood surfaces, upkeep will be of some consideration in the decision process. Hardwood flooring can last for many years in the home if properly cared for and maintained. Even low-cost hardwood floors can last a long time if cared for properly.
Low cost hardwood floors, not unlike the more expensive brands, come in different models. Installation methods for these various models of hardwood flooring may differ from nailing down, stapling down, as well as glue down. For the first-time installer, glue down types are probably the best option. They are easy to work with and install with the least amount of effort. The other methods mentioned may be best left to professional hardwood flooring installers. Errors can be costly not only in materials, but other forms of structural damage may occur if the work is not performed correctly. Use your own discretion, but keep this in mind when making your selection of installation method.
That being said, be sure to do your research well and make certain you can feel good about the hardwood flooring you choose. Check with your local home hardware centers to compare quality and prices before making a final decision.
It is a good idea when considering hardwood floors to go for quality over cost if at all possible. It is not uncommon for good-quality hardwood flooring to last a lifetime, unlike low-cost hardwood floors which are only good to last 20 years or so. Remember, not only will a good-quality hardwood floor last a long time, it will increase the value of your home substantially.
Once you have decided to install hardwood flooring in your home, be certain to have all the supplies needed for the job. Again, check with your local home and hardware center representative when in doubt.
Beauty, cleanliness, and added atmosphere are just some of the many pleasures enjoyed in homes that have hardwood floors installed. Make yours one of them!
Remember, always work safely.
