In a recent press release, NBC Entertainment announced that Homer Simpson, the well-known nuclear power plant worker and donut aficionado, will make an exclusive appearance on "The Tonight Show" on Tuesday, July 24.

Simpson, who has been at the center of numerous well-publicized controversies over the past 18 years, will appear with host Jay Leno in support of the upcoming release of his new movie. "I understand I'm doing a monologue," Simpson said during a recent interview. "I hope it doesn't involve talking."

"The Simpsons Movie," scheduled for nationwide release on Friday, finds Mr. Simpson in the somewhat familiar position of saving the world from a disaster that he himself has created.

Husband to Marge and the proud father of Bart, Maggie and Lisa, Simpson and his family first came to prominence as supporting players on "The Tracey Ullman Show" before their popularity earned them a spin-off series. Though he has worked at the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant for the majority of his adult life in a position that his boss Charles Montgomery Burns said calls for an illiterate, Simpson dabbled in other occupations over the years, including minor league baseball team mascot and manager to country singer Lurleen Lumpkin.

Simpson found himself in the national spotlight when he joined the astronaut program and later as the neighbor of former president George W. Bush. The Springfield resident can frequently be found in the company of his good friend Barney Gumble or hoisting a cold mug of Duff Beer with the boys down at Moe's Tavern, which is run by proprietor Moe Szyslak. Simpson even claimed to be the inventor of the "Flaming Moe," a popular cocktail that put the tiny neighborhood bar on the map for a brief time before he intentionally revealed the secret ingredient.

Son of Abraham Simpson, who resides in the Springfield Retirement Castle, Simpson has a half-brother named Herb Powell, the former CEO of Powell Motors who invented a machine that translates baby talk.

Due to scheduling restrictions, Mr. Simpson's appearance will be limited to the show's monologue.

"The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" is from Big Dog Productions in association with Universal Media Studios. Debbie Vickers is the executive producer.

Released by 20th Century Fox, "The Simpsons Movie" is rated PG-13 for irreverent humor throughout.

Hey, let's give this guy a "break" ok? We haven't been seriously attacked on our own soil by the "Loon Squad" (fanatic terrorists) yet since "9/11"! Do you think that's an accident? Wrong! It's because in spite of the "looney Left" here in this country opposing everything he tries to do for our safety, most of what he has done has had suffiicient effect to keep it from happening. Even now, this man is trying to effect serious "relief" fro us for the "pain" we are all feeling at the gas pump. And what does he get for his trouble?...hardly any notice from the press, except to "parrot" the objections of the Demorats! (The most "vocal" being Ms Pulosi! This is the same Nancy Pulosi who promised us all better co-operation with the white house when she was elected...and if anyone's got a memory longer than a Hot Dog, that promise was what gor her elected! So now, I visit this page to view some nice cars, and what do I see...more criticism, of theonly guy who's even o

    Bob:
I guess it was wishful thinking on my part as well. I did forget that George, Sr. is referred to as George H.W. (Herbert Walker) Bush and his son is George Walker Bush.
