Homer Simpson Offers Free Parking to the Citizens of St. Louis

According to a recent press release issued by 20th Century Fox, the city of St. Louis will offer free holiday parking on Tuesday, December 18 courtesy of Springfield resident Homer Simpson and his family. The famous animated clan are celebrating the release of their recent, big screen adventure "The Simpsons Movie" on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc on December 18.

Though Mr. Simpson would probably prefer to hand out dozens of donuts or cases of Duff brand beer, 171 parking meters on Market Street between Broadway and 20th Street in Downtown St. Louis will be tagged with 3-foot mylar balloons in the shape of a strawberry-frosted donut. Those meters will be free to use between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Homer Simpson's Community Service?

"The Simpsons Movie" documents what can be considered Homer Simpson's greatest blunder to date, which is saying a lot considering he messes something up just about every week. After saving a pig from slaughter, Mr. Simpson creates a ecological disaster so bad that the EPA has to enclose the entire town of Springfield in a protective dome. Instead of manning up and trying to fix the problem, Mr. Simpson takes his family and runs away to Alaska.

The Simpsons Have Been in the Public Eye for 20 years

Simpson and his family have been fixtures on television since they were cast members on the late great "Tracey Ullman Show" in the late 1980's before graduating to their own long-running series. Mr. Simpson currently works at a nuclear power plant and his wife Marge is a homemaker and takes care of their children: Lisa, Bart and Maggie.

Mr. Simpson himself even made a guest appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" over the summer before the release of "The Simpsons Movie."

The Simpsons Give Back to the City of St. Louis

In addition to flying the balloons in the shape of Homer's favorite kind of donut, the Simpsons are working with St. Louis City Treasurer Larry Williams' office to make a donation to the St. Louis Gateway Classic Foundation. Since 1997, the Foundation has offered scholarships to St. Louis area youths, which are based on financial need and grade point averages.

The Simpsons Do New York City, Too

While the balloons are flying over Market Street in St. Louis, Homer and his clan will be hosting 3 separate events in New York City on Tuesday. Mr. Simpson promises that the Empire State Building will turn the same shade of yellow as his head by tomorrow evening.

"The Simpsons Movie," rated PG-13 for irreverent humor throughout, will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray Disc on Tuesday, December 18.
