The Village of New Hyde Park, New York is in Nassau County, literally across the street from Queens County. There is a Long Island Railroad station right in the Village, making it an easy trip to Penn Station. Short trip to the west on Jamaica Avenue, Hillside Avenue or Union Turnpike will take you to the Cross Island Parkway, which will take you north to the Grand Central Parkway/Northern State or south to the Belt Parkway/Southern State system. It will also take you direct to Belmont Race Track.

There are no hi rise buildings in New Hyde Park, New York. Co ops are in converted garden apartment complexes. The homes are mostly one family, on tree lined streets, with good size lots, and plenty of off street parking. There are some two family homes, in areas specifically zoned two family. New Hyde Park New York is one village where you will have a wide choice of home styles. Some villages and towns have a predominance of one style of homes over another. In New Hyde Park, New York, the homes are traditional colonials, cape cods, ranches, hi ranches and split levels and different styles within each one of them. There are no "cookie cutter homes" in New Hyde Park, New York. The homes here all have something that distinguishes it from the one next door.

Make a list of what is most important to you in a home. The number of bedrooms, a large yard or a small yard, closeness to transportation and shopping, or if you prefer, further away from all the action. Once you have your own personal priorities in place, it is time to start looking. Come and take a drive through New Hyde Park New York and see if it is the neighborhood you want to call home. Spend some time on the main shopping streets, Jamaica Avenue/Jericho Turnpike, Hillside Avenue and Union Turnpike. See if the stores and restaurants are what you expect in your new neighborhood. The answer will not be the same for everyone, just find the right answer for you.

Unless there is a reason for you to focus on one particular type of house, for instance a need to have everything on the one floor like in a ranch, or the need to have at least one bedroom on the main floor like in a cape cod, try to look at the different styles. The one you think is not right just may be the one to give you a big surprise.
