Troy, New York is a moderate size city, with a population of around 50,000 in Rensselaer County. It is on the east bank of the Hudson River, just about 9 miles north east of the Capital of Albany. Many people who live in Troy, New York, commute to work in Albany. So, if you are re locating to the area, it would be a good idea to see what is available in both cities. There are many homes that are the same in both Albany and Troy, especially the older homes on the lower end of the price scale. Troy, New York does have more homes like ranch and cape cod styles and the condos are in newer buildings. Overall, the prices in Troy are less than in Albany, but it depends on the type and what your price range is. If you were to take one of the higher priced homes in Tory and put it in Albany, it would probably cost more. Again it is personal preference. If you want to be as close to work as possible, Albany might be your best choice, but take some time to look at other options like Troy, do not limit your choices. There are more than 20 public parks in Troy, New York and they have some great recreation programs for the whole family, so you do not have to go far from home to have a great outdoor time, but if you want a bit of adventure, there are a great many State Parks in the area that have camp grounds. Troy is also just a short distance from Saratoga Springs, with all the spas and the great horse racing in August.
