Homeschool Help: How to Fill Out Work Logs for a Charter School

Maggie Blake
Filling out your child's work logs for a charter school is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. Having recently had a charter school supervising teacher mention to me that there are times when she's had to spend more than an hour helping a family to figure out how to fill out their child's work logs for the charter school, it became apparent that an instructional article might be helpful to charter school parents. If you are trying to figure out how to fill out your child's work logs for the charter school you are affiliated with, the following instructional guide can help.

First, familiarize yourself with the charter school work log. Filling out any form is easier when it is a form you are familiar with. Your child's charter school work log will likely have a section that includes your child's identifying information, such as their name, grade, student number, etc. Then there will typically be a table, which contains a line for each day of the learning period. These lines will likely be grouped into sets of 5 lines, to separate one school week from another. Additionally, when you are learning how to fill out your child's work logs for a charter school, you may see the specific dates for which information is required noted on each line. If each line is not dated, it makes sense for you to take the time to fill in the dates yourself for the entire work log at the beginning of the learning period.

Be as clear, and specific, with your entries as possible. As you learn how to fill out your child's work logs for a charter school, begin to think about how you want to compose each entry. The goal here is to come up with a system which allows you to log work your child has done in a way that your supervising teacher can easily understand. Learning how to fill out your child's work logs for a charter school will be easier if you put some thought into this step before you actually begin filling out the form. Personally, while learning how to fill out my children's work logs for a charter school, I found that my supervising teacher was thrilled with my clearly written, specific, entries. For instance, when getting into the rhythm of how to fill out your child's work logs for a charter school, note the subject, as well as the specific assignment and/or pages of text covered. A line from one of my children's charter school work logs might read, "Math - Glencoe Pre-Algebra, p. 20, #'s 13-44". If I want to note information for a less structured activity, I may write, "Science - wrote about, and drew pictures of, whales and sharks that we saw at the aquarium".

Color coding got rave reviews from my supervising teacher. While learning how to fill out work logs for a charter school, I decided that my entries would be easier to read if I color coded them. I choose to write the subject in red ink, while the specific assignment information which follows is written in blue ink. When my supervising teacher was determining how well I had learned how to fill out work samples for the charter school, she was quite happy with the color coding.

Learning how to fill out work logs for a charter school can be a little frustrating at first, particularly for families who have been homeschooling outside of a charter school for some time. However, with a little bit of practice, you'll find that figuring out how to fill out work logs for a charter school is quite easy overall.
