For those of us who homeschool, the great outdoors can be a huge school room of learning fun and adventure. There is so much to learn in the wild, it would literally take you a life time to learn all there is to learn.
Have you ever seen a bird family in the spring caring for it's young? The experience of watching tiny little hatchlings in their nest feeding from their mom's beak is an experience that does not come around every day. The thrill of watching the little birds as they try to find mommas beak full of food through eyes that have not yet formed is breath taking!
How about a tadpole. Have you ever gotten to witness the transformation of a tadpole into a tiny little frog, and then into a bigger frog? It's awesome to watch these tiny creatures who cannot yet see, swim around in a pool of water feeling for their food. Then as the days go by you watch their tiny little arms and legs pop out and grow, and then suddenly they start loosing their tails, and they start looking like a cute little miniature frog.
I cannot begin to tell you how exciting it is, even for a parent, to watch the growth and transformation of a wild baby animal, into a tiny adult animal and then into a full grown animal.
Our family took a 5 week journey across the Country and we decided that camping was the way to go, and believe me it was. We are now talking about doing it again, only this time we are going to tour the state of Colorado. There is a wealth of beauty, trails, wild life, and just plain fun to be found throughout the state of Colorado. We've only seen the south central sections of the state so far, but are eager to see the north and northwest sections of the state.
Camping is a lot of fun in itself, but when you add a homeschooling adventure into the equation, you are now living in a whole new world, full of fun, exploration, and lots of adventure. So the next time you want a fun family adventure, try camping and look closely at what nature has to offer. It is a homeschool curriculum you cannot buy.
Now that is a homeschooling adventure to last a life time!
