Homeschooling: Should You or Shouldn't You

rosa florence
Some people homeschool there kids because of religion and others homeschool there children because they believe that it is better for them. What ever the reason that you might be homeschooling your children, you might come across a road along the way where you ask yourself if it would be better to homeschool or to just enroll your child in a public or private school.

There are many motivations to homeschool your child. According to the U.S. Census survey, 33% of homescholling households cited religion as a factor in teir choice. The same study found that 30% felt the regular school had a poor learning environment, 14% objected to what the school teaches, 11% felt their children weren't being challenged at school, and 9% cited morality.

According to a study done by the U.S. DOE's, in 2003 85% of homeschooling parents cited the social environments of other forms of schooling including safety, drugs, bullying and negative peer pressure, these were all noted as important reasons why they homeschooled their children. 72% cited their disire to probvide religious or moral instruction as important reasons and 68 % cited dissatisfaction with academic instruction at other schools. 7 % of parents cited said that the reason that they chose to homeschool was due to their child having physical or mental health problems, and another 7% cited that their child has other special needs and 9% said that it was because of other reason including child's choice, allows parents mroe control of learning and flexibility.

Some parents feel that the social preasure of schools, such as sex, bullying, drugs, alcohol, violence, and other problems can be detrimental to the child's development.

Some parents believe that if you homeschool a child then they won't have enough time to interact with other children their own age. Homeschooling can sometimes be costly and frustrating. Parents sometimes deciede to put their children into a public school or private school because of the time that would be consumed through out the day.

There are many resources out there to help parents that are homeschooling and there are a lot of pro's and con's. Homeschooling your child is a discission that you and your child will have to make yourselves.

err... it's not a very good case for homeschooling reading an article written by someone who doesn't use there/their correctly. And pressure is spelled PRESSURE not preasure. Whatever is one word. Desire is not spelled disire, oh I give up. You should have proofed your article, and if you did, were you homeschooled? Are YOU homeschooling? I certainly hope not. This article clearly shows that teaching is a skill and not everyone is equipped with it.
