Homosexuality in Teens

A View from the Inside

Carly Love
In the 21st century more and more teenagers have been admitting to being homosexual or bi-sexual. For years, it has troubled people why one would want to have an intimate relationship with a partner of the same sex. People now have an insight as to why homosexuality and bi-sexuality have become so accepted and popular in todays society.

Over all, today people are more accepting of one another. With several American states legalizing gay marriage, more people are deciding to "come out of the closet." Every day more and more people are realizing that it is okay to be different and they want to show their differences off and be able to be proud of them. American society is quickly becoming more accepting to peoples differences, also.

When asking why somebody would choose to be gay there are two very common responses: "I've never felt an attraction to the opposite sex," and "I have been hurt too many times by the opposite sex." Can one really completely change their sexual orientation due to heart break? Hard as it may be to believe, yes one can. It is like trying to understand why someone would commit suicide. One cannot understand unless they have dealt with the problem themselves.

Can a person be born gay? Is homosexuality a chemical imbalance in the brain that causes the persons views on a "normal" lifestyle to be distorted? I strongly believe, as many others do, that homosexual thoughts come from life experiences. A child that has been raised in a family with two parents of the same sex is more likely to live their life homosexual than a child raised in a family with a mother and a father.

Bi-sexuality has become very popular among teenage girls. Some have admitted to being "bi" because it makes them more popular, because their friends claim to me, or because teenage boys find it attractive. But, the reason to why a person would choose to be bi-sexual is a complicated one. Alot of the time, it's bi-curiosity, instead of bi-sexuality. As a teenager, one might not yet know who they truly are yet. This could cause the teen to want to experiment with both males and females.

America is moving forward and welcoming peoples differences more now than in the past. In years to come, all American citizens may be able to accept their neighbor for who they are, and learn to embrace their differences.

I would like to know where you got this information, because it is incorrect. Please check your facts next time, thanks.

Hi Carly! to comment on the topic of teens and homosexuality, I would like to say that (not trying to change your beliefs) many people are born gay because of the hormones in their body. I do not believe that ALL homosexuals choose to be gay. although some do, many don't like myself. I did not choose to be gay and I do not have same sex parents. I feel this way because Many heterosexuals (possibly yourself - no offense) did not have to choose to be straight. heterosexuals don't have to wake up and decide to be gay or straight. they just are like many homosexuals. they are no different than any other human being, they just like the same sex. and a lot of teens know whether they are gay or not. some people may not because they may not understand but most do know what their sexuality is. it's just like a heterosexual. they did not have to sleep with the same/opposite sex to figure out their sexuality. it is just that many people don't come out because they are afraid of what others may th
