Homosexuals Gaining Clout!

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA - "The clout of homosexuals in United States' politics is significantly growing," Kenneth Miller, an expert who testified, as opponents of same-sex marriage opened their case in a federal proceeding challenging California's Proposition 8's banning gay marriage, AFP reported.

Miller, who is a professor at Claremont McKenna College, assessed and testified before the Court "upward trajectory of power" of the homosexual in U.S.

"I believe that gays and lesbians do have power at the national level," Professor Miller said and added that the gays and lesbians are now enjoying growing political influence in California as well.

Gay marriage supporters are very confident that they can overturn Proposition 8, which limits marriage to unions between men and women.

The supporters of the ban are willing to argue in all venues of their civil rights and prove that with their power and solidarity; they can prove that gays and lesbians are no longer a minority in the society.

It can be recalled that last week, Gary M. Segura, who is also an Educator in Stanford University of American politics, gave his testimonies that the homosexuals are politically vulnerable.

"Gays and lesbians do not possess a meaningful degree of political power," Segura said. "They are not able to protect their basic interests and effectuate their interests into law and to secure those."

Both Miller and Segura's analysis and observation, through their testimonies, told the court that: "The public has demonstrated increasing support for the political objectives of LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) persons and that can be measured in a number of different ways."

So far, 30 states have adopted hate-crimes legislation, Miller said, while 21 states have adopted protections against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

Even President Barack Obama had spoken of his support and said "has given significant support to the LGBT rights movement."
