Homosexuals vs Fornicators: Both are Sinners in the Eyes of Christianity

Karen Francis
When I read the piece written by J.C. Hogan titled Gays are taking us to Hell? It made my heart sad. The author writes a lot about the politicians and Christians crucifying homosexuality and doing or saying nothing about the many issues including materialism which is in crisis mode in our nation. I am going to respond to this article strictly from an editorial stand point. If I were to go into the Word of God and speak to each issue I would be writing from now until the end of time.

Beloved, I have been a Christian for almost 20 years now and what I have come to realize is that there are so many people who misunderstand Christianity. I have had people tell me that because I am a Christian I think I am better than them. Being Christ like is not a religion to me, but it is a lifestyle. The issue with the church in America today is a lack of understanding of what it means to bear the name of Christ.

First, we must understand that Christ was both divine and human and we are all spirits walking this earth clothed in human flesh. Once we understand that, we understand that not all spirits are good; some are evil and follow the Prince of this world who we call the Devil, Satan or the Evil One.

With that said, let me give you some background on when I first began a church member and joined a Baptist church as a teenager. Most of the people that went to my church were upper middle class folks with seemingly good morals and loved and supported our pastor. I actually got baptized the first time on a bet. The pastor opened the doors of the church and my friends were talking and joking around as usual during service and they said, I dare you to go down there in front of all these people. I was so competitive back then that if you dared me to do something, I did it and with boldness. It might have something to do with being a 5.1 90 lbs girl from the Bronx and having to stand firm. So I got up and walked down the stairs and became a candidate for baptism. My friends were shocked and dismayed and one of the guys ran up to me afterwards and said "you look too good to be saved". I was like what does that mean, so I figured okay when I get baptized I will be saved. After baptism and wearing my pretty white outfit and having punch and food, I began to feel unsettled in my heart. I thought to myself, wow, is this all it takes to get to heaven?

You see, my father commanded me and my siblings to read the King James bible almost everyday and we thought it to be harsh punishment at the time, little did we know God was forming our destiny. I was confused because I read about God requiring that we be Holy because He was Holy (Peter I 1:16) and I remember reading passages where many will stand before Him and say Lord we did all these things in your name, and then Jesus would respond I DON'T KNOW YOU, DEPART FROM ME. (Matthew 7:22, 23) So I knew that what I professing was not lining up with what the word of God was teaching. My friends and I were going to house parties every weekend and engaging in underage drinking and smoking pot, but as soon as Sunday morning came we were right in the place with our oh so lovely patent leather shoes and designer suites. I didn't realize it at the time but the Holy Spirit was pulling on my heart and trying to tell me that you can't live any way you want and enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.

There are many debates on what the bible is teaching us and only God truly knows who is right. One thing I do know for a fact and that is there is a God and He has promised to send His Holy Spirit to comfort and guide us through this journey. Don't think that all Christians are two faced, because it's not true, they are just walking out their journey the best they know how with the information that they have. Human flesh is sinful and without the Power of the Holy Spirit there is just no way we can be or do any good thing. The bible tells us that no man comes unless the Father draws, so there's only one way to the Father and that's through His son Jesus Christ.

There are many accounts of people that entered the kingdom of heaven and never spoke in another tongue, were never baptized and never cast out demons or even feed the needy. God is just so worthy for whom He is, so why wouldn't we want everything that He has to offer us. God says, I set before you life and death therefore choose life so that both you and your family might live. (Deuteronomy 30:19)

I have a lot of friends that are homosexuals and some are still in the closet and some proudly out and I love them just as much as I love myself. I love them, but I hate the sin, because I know that all sin leads to death and it doesn't have to be a physical death, but a social and spiritual death will surely come. If it was so lovely being in a homosexual lifestyle you would not see so many suicides and violent relationships within that community; however this does not negate the fact that there is just as much dysfunction in relationships dealing with fornicators.

People engaging in homosexuality are no more in sin than people engaging in fornication. God hates sin so much that he can't even look upon human flesh except through the blood of His son Jesus Christ. I wouldn't worry about what politicians or Christians are saying about the gay community going to hell; however I would listen to that still small voice within yourself that says this is what God requires of me. We all have to work out our own soul salvation. I can't live for my brother or sister and they can't live for me.

God does not desire that any should perish, but that they would come into repentance (Peter II 3:9).

Thanks for that comment morefire. The lack of love in the church today is one reason why so many souls that are outside of the household of faith remain in their condition because they don't see anything in "some" christians that they deem christ like. It's not only homosexuality and unwed mothers that "some" christians bash, it's anybody or anything that doesn't line up with their way of thinking....mind you, I didn't say, it didn't line up with God or His word, which is the only measure of Truth, but within their own minds. There's much prayer needed in the Body, so keep praying!

Yes, I am a Bronx girl. I know a lot about Brooklyn Tab because I use to play their music when I was on the air in Virginia. Stay Blessed and I'll check out your blog.

You said it, sister. Too many Christians hate rather than love and suffer for others. Instead of bashing gays we need to weep over them. We need to pray and love them into heaven. Sin is sin, regardless. Today I wrote a post to my blog ( morefire.wordpress.com ) about a similar topic - Christians beating up unwed mothers and those considering abortion. I see you're from the Bronx. I attend the Brooklyn Tabernacle. God bless you.
