Honda to Open New Diesel Engine Plant in Japan

The premium car manufacturer Honda Motors, is planning to set up a plant in Japan to cater to diesel engines for its European market.

Honda has been reluctant adopt diesel technology, but has succumbed to the demand for diesel engines only lately. Honda offers diesel variants for its popular models Accord and CR-V. But the company has been soft in promoting diesel variants as compared to petrol run cars. Instead Honda has focused on hybrids and bio-fuels.

The new diesel engine plant in Ogawa, Japan will be its first major foray into the diesel sector. Honda plans to manufacture 2.2litre diesel engine. The company has taken care to ensure that its diesel plants are one of the cleanest units that confirm to the highest pollution standards in world.

Wit several developments in diesel technology, drastic change has been witnessed and diesel is now considered a clean fuel. Diesel cars are popular in Europe for their ability to deliver more power from smaller powertrain units. Earlier diesel was considered a major pollutant and a dirty fuel. It was left to be used in trucks and bigger vehicles. However, major technological innovations have helped it deliver better conversion of energy and emissions have made it cleaner. It is considered equivalent to petrol engines. Many luxury car manufacturers like Mercedes, BMW, Toyota offer diesel engine run cars.
