Honey is One Amazing Product!
Bees All Over the Globe Produce This Beautiful Sweetener for Our Consumption!
Honey is made from the nectar that is found in nearly every bloom across the world. Each flower produces nectar as a by product. The bees fly around from flower to flower gathering this nectar. Once their honey sacks are full, the bee returns to the bee hive and deposit the nectar into the cells of the honeycomb. The bees have a special enzyme in their honey sacks that mixes with the nectar and begins to turn the nectar into the delicious sweet honey we consume. The bees evaporate the water from the honey by flapping their wings over each honeycomb cell. Once the water has evaporated and the honey is formed, the bee seals off the cell of the honeycomb to preserve the sweet honey.
Honey comes in a variety of flavors and colors. Some honey is very light and golden, while other honey is very dark and often appears as a shade of brown. The main reason the shade differs amongst different honey is due to the type of flower the nectar was gathered from. Clover honey is the most commonly found type of honey. Clover honey has a light, golden shade and a very mild taste. A few other varieties are: orange blossom honey, wildflower honey, goldenrod honey, and even berry blossom honey. The flavor differs only a little bit and to the untrained mouth, they all taste about the same!
You can also get honey is comb form. Some people love to eat the honey right out of the comb. Generally the wax is not consumed, but occasionally people do eat small amounts. Some people just like to chew on the wax because of its sweet flavor. In olden times, the wax was a very tasty treat!
Now for some amazing honey and honey bee facts! Honey will never spoil, and needs no refrigeration. Even once the jar is open the honey will not spoil. Honey that is sealed has no shelf life limit. Bees have been producing honey for over 150 million years! That makes honey one of the oldest substances of human consumption. Honey is rich in vitamins and antioxidants. Honey contains no fat, salt or cholesterol The bees buzz is a result of its rapidly flapping wings. Their wings flap up to 11,400 times per minute! Honey bees survive the winter by feeding from the honey they have collected over the summer all while huddling together to prevent themselves from freezing. A hive usually consists of 50,000 bees! Each colony will produce about 75 pound of honey per year.
Honey is an amazing substance that should be consumed by everyone. Use it to sweeten your tea, cereal or oatmeal for a start. Many different herbal remedies may also be formed by using honey.
