Preheat the oven to 300 degreesBeat on high- butter, shortening, vanilla, honey, rum, baking powder, salt, and sugar until they cream together. Hint. Begin to cream the first seven ingredients and add sugar after rum begins to mix with the shortening and the butter. (This process can be messy) Slowly mix in one cup of flour at a time until all flour is throughly mixed. Add nuts and fold them into the dough.2
On a greased cookie sheet place rolled balls about the size of a small golf ball in rows. Bake for 25 minutes. Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack. Makes about 35 Honey and Rum Balls.Option for those with a sweet tooth is to roll the warm rum balls in powder sugar before they cool.Tip
I love the taste of rum and these rum balls are full of rum. I also love the taste of honey so the two put together makes the perfect cookie. These are adult cookies, they are not sweet, unless you roll them in powder sugar as an option. I prefer them without the powder sugar. These cookies are great for a New Years Eve Party or any time you have a group of friends over. For the rum I use a good quality dark rum. I have never tried it with white rum since it has a harsher taste but I am thinking of trying them with spiced rum just to add another flavor. I also think you could make these with a good Kentucky Bourbon. The recipe originally came from my mother-in-law who was a very good cook but followed her recipes to the letter. The original recipe was for Honey Balls. I added the rum, sugar, and baking powder to make these cookies. If you would like her original recipe take out those ingredients and cut the flour down to 2 cups and the baking time down to twenty minutes.

Post a CommentCheryl you are right and I cannot get into the copy to edit it. I apologize for this. My daughter's mother-in -law always gives out her recipes missing one ingredient so no one can duplicate them. Maybe I have caught that bug.
Honey 1/4 cup. If you use a spray oil on your measuring cup the honey will flow right out and the cup will clean up easily. Kent
i would love to try this but i don't see the amount of honey. can't wait to make these.
Sounds delicious. I'll have to try this.
