Honeymoon in Canada

Weddings are stress-inducing - so choosing and planning your honeymoon should be the fun part of your wedding planning process.

Good communication is an obvious necessity to having a successful honeymoon. However something that may escape the thoughts of many honeymooners is going to Canada.

The Okanagan Valley in British Columbia is unique as it is the hottest climate in BC and Canada's only true desert. It's located in the interior of British Columbia just north of Washington.

A key city in the area is Osoyoos, with all the conveniences of beaches, golf courses, world-renown wineries, shops, grocery stores, fresh fruit stands, and restaurants. Or if you simply want to go for a walk, there are many parks, and much beautiful scenery to just stroll along, to enjoy being outside.

There are a number of hotels, but in specific many new resorts being built due to the increasing interest in the beautiful land. For example Spiritridge is a new resort built on the property of the NK'MIP (pronounced 'ink-meep') winery (see picture), that has a beautiful view of the area and town in the okanagan valley. It's located on the east side of the town Osoyoos. It

A 20 minute drive North of Osoyoos would bring you to the town of Oliver. In between the two towns, and in the surrounding area there are near 20 wineries you can visit. Some of the restaurants boast extremely good restaurants as well, such as The Sonora room at the Burrowing Owl, which is led by Chef Bernard Casavant, one of B.C.'s most respected chefs.

If you can time it, there are wine festivals that occur in the Okanagan, during the different seasons on specific dates as well, where you can be sure to enjoy special tastings, and events.

There isn't an enormous night-life to speak of in this area. So if your intention is to go out and party, then this probably isn't the best location for you. The area is typically populated with an older age group, since it is a retirement community. However during the summer months the population in the area explodes quite a bit.

However the purpose of the Honeymoon is to have new experiences with your new marriage mate, and to relax after the hectic weeks preceeding the wedding. If this is what you want to experience, the Okanagan Valley is possibly the perfect destination and can be as lavish or frugal as you desire.
