Honeymoon Nightmare Part 2

Guy Siverson
When last we left you our rescue from the freezing water of June had just been secured. Now penniless without keys the honeymoon nightmare continues with a most awful twist.

The traveler's checks, which I had kept all together in the back pocket of my jeans, were gone. My car/house keys, as well as other keys, vanished into the deep.

On the good side we discovered that the unsinkable paddleboat we had clung to life beside had indeed been sinking. Had we not been rescued it wouldn't have been long before there would not have been a vessel to cling to life beside at all.

Returning to our penniless honeymoon status, the waters were now storming. Our rescuers decided to take their boat out upon the whitecaps and see if they could find our money.

Impossible.

How could you possibly find anything on a big lake with white caps that is in a small plastic envelope that may or may not be floating? Not to mention that the color of this floating package was blue!

Amazingly, about 30 minutes later they returned with our package in hand. First time ever I've had to blow dry expensive paper, but boy was I a happy camper.

Still, how would we continue our travels without car keys? Our best option would be to break into the car, hotwire its engine and head for home. Honeymoon over. That would be sad.

It was true that I had given my new bride her own set of keys. However, equally true is that in all the excitement the whereabouts of her set was unknown. Even if they were with us, was a mystery.

Now back at the lodge we broke into the car and what to our surprise did we find but her set of keys. Yes!

At dinner later that night we discovered the result of putting oil lotions, mentioned in part 1 of this story, on a redheaded lady and adding hours of bright sunlight as we began seeing serious burns arise. They were so serious that we spent the next day at the doctors. Diagnosis? First, second & third degree burns.

After time they healed, but it certainly was not a pleasant cap on our honeymoon nightmare. Our lesson, and yours, enjoy and have fun on your new venture; but be smart with the decisions you make even during times of pure excitement like these.

  • Keys vanished to the bottom of the lake. - What do you do?
