Located just above Barbados and between Martinique and St. Vincent, on a clear day you can see them from the beautiful island of St. Lucia. The island is twenty-seven miles long and fourteen miles wide with a population of approximately one hundred fifty thousand people. English is the main language on the island, however many St. Lucians do speak French and Spanish as well. The second language is called Kweyol, which is actually a language of it's own with grammar and syntax. St. Lucia is known for it's two thousand feet high, volcanic coastal peaks, the Pitons. Here, you will find breath taking rain forests filled with giant ferns and wild orchids to give the forests a delightful touch of color. You may also get lucky and see endangered species, such as the St. Lucia parrot.
The natural beauty of this island is enough to sweep you off of your feet. Stepping out onto the beach, surrounded by palm trees and feeling the island breeze in this wonderful climate will make the ultimate honeymoon. The rain season for the island is from June to November, so if you visit during these times, you may witness a few island showers.
There are a number of activities offered to you on the island, or you can simply kick back and relax to enjoy your escape to paradise. Many of the hotels and resorts will have some form of entertainment throughout the week, such as live bands and cultural performances. You will find several restaurants and bars to keep the night alive all over the island. Visit Rex St. Lucian on Monday nights and enjoy a cocktail party, later followed by live music and a limbo show and competition. On Wednesday nights, you may wish to make your way to the Ladera Resort for an art auction featuring the works of Llewllyn Xavier, Ross Wilson and Soupsyon. Le Nouveau Bistro is a great place to be on Friday night as you will enjoy dinner over the water with live island music. No matter what day it is, there are great shows and music to enjoy.
Aside from live entertainment, St. Lucia also offers horseback riding along the beach, with time for swimming and a beach picnic at Cas en Bas. Several hiking trails are located on the island. You may enjoy the natural beauty of the island on a three and a half mile trek on the Eastern Nature Trail. If you enjoy camping, perhaps you will be interested in Anse La Liberte, St. Lucia's first campsite, recently opened. Another great and exciting activity offered is riding All-Terrain Vehicles through St. Lucia's country side, over mountains and through banana plantations.
St. Lucia can make a great memory for the rest of your life and there is no better time to go than for your honeymoon. The island is filled with beauty and romance guaranteed to make your visit a remarkable experience.
