The gorgeous white beaches of Waikiki and beautifully-lit blue water runs a full two miles to the southeast have long tempted visitors to Honolulu. Posessing a skyline that honestly proves the downtown as a huge urban area, there are many cultural beauties and events to be discovered in Honolulu between trips into the city and playful days at the beach. Honolulu has loads of cool things to do, such as the Art on the Zoo Fence. This is an event taking place during the month of October,on Monsarrat Avenue across from the Kapiolani Park Bandstand. You can meet the artists who sell their works in the form of originals, prints and photographs Every Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 4pm, more than 35 local artists display their work. Another cool event taking place in October is the nightly performances at the Kuhio Beach Hula Mound near the Duke Kahanamoku Statue. They Feature a Torch Lighting and Conch Shell Ceremony. They also have authentic Hawaiian Music and Hula Show by Hawaii's Hula Halau (troupes) and Hawaiian Performers. The Kuhio Beach Torch Lighting & Hula Show is nightly, year-round (weather-permitting).
You are even allowed to bring your own lawn chairs to sit back and relax in. Go and visit the Iolani Palace located in downtown Honolulu. The Iolani Palace was first built in 1882 by the late King Kalakaua. It was then restored in 1969. The interior of the palace is decorated with European furniture that is reminiscent of Hawaii's old culture. The palace is open from Wednesday to Saturday for tours each week with advanced reservations. Every Friday the Royal Hawaiian Band performs in the Kalakaua Cornonation Bandstand. Another must-see in Honolulu is the Honolulu Zoo. The zoo has a variety of animal habitats, including an African savanna, a rainforest and a petting zoo. More than 750,000 people visit the zoo every year. Interestingly, the zoo was founded in 1874, then a 300-acre park built by the King.
It is open each day from 9am to 4:30pm. People come from thousands of miles away ever day to see Hawaii's beaches. Honolulu has some of the most beautiful there are. Waikiki Beach is a series of continuous beaches over a two-mile area. Part of the series of Waikiki Beach, Kuhio Beach represents a more peaceful section of Waikiki. Part of which is sheltered by a wall for water-breaking, this beach is a perfect place for young children and beginner swimmers to spend part of their vacation. Last but not least, you must visit the Wakiki Aquarium! It is only a few blocks from Waikiki Beach and a great place to learn about Hawaii's fascinating ocean world.
You can witness 400 amazing species at this small but extreme museum, including sharks and monk seals. An educated and helpful staff is right there with you to narrate tours and answer any questions that visitors may have for them. The aquarium also has a lovely gift shop where you can purchase cute souvenirs and find out if any cool events are coming up. Most importantly, it offers some fantastic outreach programs, both educational and community-oriented. In conclusion, Honolulu is one of the greatest vacation destinations in the world. Listed above are some incredible things you can do on a trip to Honolulu, but are pretty much the tip of the iceberg. Honolulu has so many more events and sights to offer. The possibilities on a trip there are endless!
