Honor Killing in America - a Big Problem?
The Middle Eastern Practice of Honor Killing is Coming to the US...What Are the Consequences?
Such is something that seems very foreign to the United States. Gender equality has been present for decades, and murder has never been something you would tie to the world "honor." Still yet, the times are changing and this is something that is unfortunately becoming more and more commonplace.
Amina and Sarah Said
On New Years Day 2008, a chilling 911 call was made. Sarah Said told a 9-1-1 operator that her father shot her and that she was dying in the backseat of a taxi cab. Her father, a devout Muslim riddled her body and her sister's body with bullets.
There are some accounts which claim that the girls were dating non-Muslim boys. The penalty was that the father felt as if they were a disgrace to the family and as such he murdered them in cold blood.
Noor Almaleki
Another honor killing from recent years is Noor Almaleki. She was ran over by her father's Jeep Cherokee while in the presence of another Muslim woman, who was also ran over. Her killer? Faleh Almaleki. Her own father. He didn't approve of her wearing jeans, dating non-Muslim boys, and being an all-American girl.
Her father wanted her to marry a man pre-selected for her back in Iraq. She wanted to remain in the United States, become a teacher, marry for love - and make her own decisions. The result? She was killed.
These women aren't alone; there are likely many more out there that we haven't heard about. As an All-American woman, the thought is incomprehensible, but as the landscape in the country changes and as more and more countries immigrate in to the US, there will be more and more ideologies that come in.
Still, no matter which way you slice it, "honor killings" will never make sense to someone that does not have a Muslim background. Sort of like how allowing women to make their own decisions and live their own lives will never make sense to someone that didn't grow up with that type of upbringing.

Post a Comment(con't - page 2 of 2) culture. The United States is not and will never be a place where such attrocities will ever be tolerated. I am sure that we can create a fundraising group to fund a one way airline ticket back East if we there are any takers.
My grandparents left their homelands - Portugal and Philippines for a better life and ended up meeting in Hawaii, to that i am extremely grateful. While we celebrate our culture in our food, dance, etc. we totally embrace the american way. I am proud to be a part of this country and while it is not perfect, there is no place else in the world that I would whether live. So while the USA is a melting pot, if you chose to live here then you should adopt some of the basic principles of this country which is stated in a very important document called the Declaration of Independence where it states that every person is entitled certain rights and to pursue happiness. If you wish to continue your extreme ways of life that goes against our way of life, then why not stay in your own countries. If you CHOSE to come here, then CHOSE to live within these norms. Honor killings are abominable but I couldn't judge so harshly when they occur in the countries that value this as part of their cult
Because it is kurdish doesn't make it any better. The majority of Kurds are Muslim This is a backward culture(s) that is wanting to invade our culture. I highly doubt they will be willing to change to suit us.
Honor killings, clitoridectomies, household slaves, fund raising for jihad--just how much of their culture are we willing to import? Because there will always be more sharia to accommodate.
Still, no matter which way you slice it, "honor killings" will never make sense to someone that does not have a Muslim background.
Dumb comment. The article headed Girl Suffers "Honor Killing" by Her Family is of a Kurdish, not Muslim girl. It's not just Muslims.
