Honoring Dr.Martin Luther King, Jr. On His Birthday

Mary E. Coe
Driven by a higher power, he led the march on Washington
In hopes that, one day, we would all be free
Free from hate, free from racism, free from ignorance
He had a dream that one day, all race, all people, would live in harmony
He had a dream, a powerful dream of a better world for you and me

He led the march on Washington for jobs, peace and freedom
In his struggle, promoting Unity and equality between men
He was assaulted, and he was jailed twenty four times or more
Even In the midst of danger, he stood strong, brave and tall
His faith in God enabled him to rise up time after time
to march on and follow his dream: equality for all

Dr. Martin Luther King, he had a dream to strengthen
this whole world from hate, from anger, from prejudice
that one day, man would be free
He had a dream, the impossible dream, in reality he could see
That one day, all men, all race, would walk in harmony

Even thought his life was cut short, much too soon
Dr. King's dream could not be destroyed, his dream lives on forever
Hate, prejudice and racism may never go away, but, we can proudly say
Because of his struggle to promote unity and equality between all men
this world is a much better place today

He would be so proud that Americans stood up together
and elected our first African American as president because it was our belief
regardless of his skin color, he was best for commander-in-chief
Happy Birthday, Dr. Martin Luther King

I miss you, also, Donna. Thanks for your wonderful comment, I will be back on Authorsden as soon as I'm done with a family history book I'm working on for an upcoming family reunion.
