Hook, Line, and Drinkers - Excellent Bar and Restaurant in Akron, Ohio

Hook, Line, and Drinkers may not be the first thing to come to mind when you think "Akron restaurant"-unless of course you live in Portage Lakes. I would argue, however, that it houses some of the best bar food in town. Situated right on the lake, Hook, Line, and Drinkers is a versatile and welcoming establishment with a little something for every occasion.

I've been to this bar and restaurant many times, for a variety of different reasons. Live bands play there every once in a while, the bar has a wonderful outdoor patio, which is great in the summertime while sipping my beer and socializing. More often, however, I go there for lunch.

Of all the Akron restaurants around, why would I choose this one? Well, location for one. I happen to love Portage Lakes, and many of the establishments that line its waters. Even if it's too cold to sit outside, the windows house a great view of the lakes and the many boaters that find their way around them.

There is, of course, also the food. As far as Akron restaurants go, I'm not sure this one takes the cake for best food. However, given that there are so many quality Akron restaurants I'm not suggesting that Hook, Line, and Drinkers has bad food. On the contrary-they have an excellent menu. It has a variety of sandwiches, wraps, salads, and appetizers for different tastes. They also have daily specials for those who don't find the menu big enough (though I'm not sure how they would). Everything is moderately priced, sandwiches running between $7-10. The only exception to this price range is the "Belly Buster Burger"-the burger weighing, yes, a full pound.

If I were to make any particular recommendations for this particular Akron restaurant, I would suggest the fish sandwich. I haven't found too many quality seafood restaurants in the area (given that I tend to gravitate toward local businesses rather than chains such as Red Lobster), and this sandwich is delicious. It is comprised of a rather large fillet of Hoki, beer battered, fried, and placed on an equally large bun. With your favorite toppings and condiments, this sandwich will certainly find its way to your heart. Well, it will certainly find its way to your stomach if nothing else!

To go with your delicious Hoki sandwich, I suggest you try the corn fritters. These amazing, genius little creations are made up of corn and a delicious sauce, rolled in batter and deep-fried. I have to admit, I've grown a bit addicted to these things, and they may be what keeps bringing me back to this Akron restaurant. I would also like to mention the onion rings. If you appreciate the delicate nature and balance of an onion ring like I do, you'll find these are up to par.

As a serious beer advocate, I don't find Hook, Line, and Drinkers to be out of the ordinary as far as beverage selection goes. They have a wide enough selection, however, to compliment the menu-which is sufficient for my purposes.

Hook, Line, and Drinkers may be no giant among Akron restaurants, but it is one definitely worth trying out. Great for groups, a night out, a business lunch, or takeout-Hook, Line, and Drinkers is a great option for anyone looking for great food on the lakes.
