When you are used to having a lake in your backyard that you can fish for fat bass any time, living in New York is sometimes tough to take. I have fond memories of hooking 5 pounders and drinking beers in the summer but when I walk by the East or Hudson River and I see guys reeling in tires, those memories fade.

But my fishing hopes and dreams may have been answered. I recently stumbled on The Brooklyn Urban Anglers Association, a collection of fisherman who meets to talk about, well fishing in an urban environment. I'll admit that I have been reluctant to get my fishing gear, I mean, how's a striper from New York City going to compare to one I caught in New Hampshire? But the guys who run the BKUAA are willing to take on all comers, including the cynics.

One of the members even hooked a 40" striper off of Williamsburg the other day so my mind has been quickly changed about the quality of fishing around Brooklyn and New York City. I haven't been able to sign up for membership, but I will definitely be headed over to their next meet up (the schedule is on their website) to get more info and pick the brains of the local anglers.

I most certainly will be entering into their derby, so I can show these guys a thing or two about how to hook the big striper!
