When it comes to cross-stitch, it is important to have the right supplies going into the project. That includes the right type, color and count of cloth; a design idea; embroidery thread colors to complete the design and a good embroidery hoop.
One of the best embroidery hoops on the market today comes from Susan Bates. It is known as the Hoop-La.
Why is the Hoop-La so good? Let's take a look and see.
Hoop-La is made from heavy duty Luxite. That means the hoop is sturdy, long lasting and not prone to easy breakage.
Luxite is a form of Lucite that is highly durable. It is used in some craft supplies; most notably those supported by Susan Bates. These include embroidery hoops, knitting needles and crochet hooks.
The Hoop-La comes with a super grip lip. The special design of the hoop makes sure that the cloth is held with the proper amount of tension from throughout the length of the project.
The Hoop-La won't slip; distort the design; or cause the fabric or thread to snag. It also assures that your sewing is uniform; passing the needle through quickly and easily. That ensures a nice, even stitch each and every time.
Some people choose to use the Hoop-La as the frame for the finished product. Because it holds the fabric tightly, the cloth won't sag over time. It will remain tense and strong.
The Hoop-La comes in a variety of sizes. These include 4", 5", 6", 7", 8" and 10" rounds. It also includes 3" by 6" and 4.5" by 9" ovals.
It also comes in a variety of colors. These include blue, pink, purple and yellow.
Using the Hoop-La is easy. Begin by placing the inner hoop down on a flat surface such as a desk or table. Next, position the fabric to be sewn over the hoop. Frame it evenly from top to bottom and side to side.
Then put the top hoop over the cloth and snap it down over bottom hoop lip. Adjust the fabric tighter if necessary, while keeping it well center within the frame. It should be tight as a drum.
Finally, turn the screw on the outer hoop to adjust the final tension where you want it. Once you have it secure, you are ready to start your embroidery, crewel or cross-stitch.
If, while sewing, the fabric loosens, readjust the tension as needed. Be certain to keep the fabric centered at all times.
The Hoop-La is available in most craft stores. It may also be found in some discount department stores that have a craft section. Finally, it is sold by specialty stores that carry supplies for embroidery, crewel, cross-stitch or other sewing projects. The cost varies depending upon the size of the hoop. Most begin around $3.99 and go up from there.
I use Hoop-La for cross-stitching, embroidery and crewel. It works equally well for all three. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
