Hope For The Flowers, words and pictures by Trina Paulus, a unique book, a journey for the soul,
celebrates forty years in 2012. Clever illustrations and handwritten storyline, connects the seeker
to the philosophical quest for higher meaning along with Stripe and Yellow, two caterpillars in search
of the top of a pillar of catepillars stacked on top of each other trying to reach an exact destination
for an obscure purpose.
One day, Yellow overhears, Stripe talking to himself and pondering the true meaning of the task
at hand. It turns out, Yellow was just as confused about where they were going and why they were
trying to get to the top. Suddenly, Stripe realized it's not so easy to trample over someone guilt free,
once, you've had a conversation with them. He tried to avoid her. Finally the time arrived, she was
blocking the way up and he stepped on her. This made him feel guilty when she looked at him with
a sad expression.He reconsidered.
They found their way to the bottom of the pile and crawled into the grass to rest.
While Yellow was content with this simple togetherness , Stripe decided he still wanted more
out of life. Unwilling to compromise, he abandoned her to begin travelling toward the top, again.
While he was on his own making his way through the swarm of caterpillars in the thick pillar,
Yellow met an unusual fellow who explained he was making a cacoon. He told her she was meant
to become a butterfly, but it was her choice. She wondered if there really was a butterfly inside her,
why would she would want to ignore her potential? Afterall, butterflys do their part for the flowers.
She decided to take the risk it might all be in her head and give it a try.
Hanging from the branch, she followed the steps and waited patiently until sure enough
she became a BUTTERFLY!
Meanwhile, Stripe was finding out the hard way about the top.
Rumors were surfacing, there was nothing at the top. He was second guessing his choices
and thinking of the sweet girl he remembered fondly, when he saw a beautiful, yellow butterfly
trying to get his attention. Could it be his friend whom he left behind? She appeared just to
let him in on the secret about their true destiny. He tried to convince the others, but when he
could not get through to them, he made the right decision for himself and abandoned the crowd
to become a butterfly.
Hope For The Flowers, a parable, translates into hope for humanity.
