From approximately 8 to 10 p.m. EST, the Hollywood elite will come together on every major network in America. Celebrities will be on the phone to handle the telethon aspect of the night, while musicians will power the concert portion. Combined, they plan to give Hope for Haiti, in merely their latest gathering after a tragic event.
It seems that every 3-4 years, our most famous people have to organize a major concert and telethon after a disaster. They did for 9/11, Katrina and the tsunami, and now they're back together after the Haiti earthquake.
This time the driving force is George Clooney, who is also no stranger to putting aid and telethons together. Not long after the Haiti earthquake hit, Clooney recruited all of his famous friends to raise awareness from all over the world. Tonight, celebrities in New York, Los Angeles and London will be performing and taking donations, while Anderson Cooper reports from Haiti itself.
The Hope for Haiti telethon will raise more money, while the Hope for Haiti concert will have music's biggest names singing for the Haitian people. Wyclef Jean, who has been at the forefront of raising aid, will headline in New York, while the likes of Jennifer Hudson and John Legend will perform in Los Angeles.
Beyonce, Madonna, Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Taylor Swift and more will also perform, while Clooney, Brad Pitt, Robert Pattinson, Jennifer Aniston and more actors will man the phones. But even after the concert ends, the celebrities work may not end, as there are rumors of an updated "We Are The World" song yet to come.
No matter what the rich elite can do, bringing Hope for Haiti requires more than a concert, and two hours of air time throughout television. Will this be just another excuse for celebrities to show off their bleeding hearts, or can they inspire people to really give - or will they do both at once?
The results will be hard to miss, since the Hope for Haiti concert and telethon is on pretty much every network tonight. But since Friday night is a slow TV night anyway, it shouldn't affect anyone's viewing schedules.

Post a CommentLibertarian,
You are certainly not the first person I have encountered that would rather not aid Haiti due to "America having its own problems." Do you think that the millions of people that have donated have any direct connection to Haiti? I certainly don't. People donate because Haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and the government there is solely dependent on donations and charity of others. Who claimed America was in any economic position to donate money? It isn't; our economy is completely terrible right now. Nobody is arguing that we already have loved ones in hospitals, we're already paying bills, we are already losing our own jobs...The argument is that Haiti is in a complete stage of life or death. If your donating even the smallest amount to help rescue or feed an injured person will prohibit you from waking up tomorrow morning, then you have every right to keep to yourself. But in a world filled with so much cruelty as it is, why not use some of the re
I am really glad to hear you comment on this especially with the fact you are a Rev. Because I don't feel I should feel guilty for not donating to a cause that is not a priority for me. And it angers me that again, I am subject to the powers that be telling me what I should be doing, giving et..in order to serve their interests. More so, it actually angers me when there are many MORE people than in America suffering and many more to come. It just appears as if it goes unnoticed. I think it has to do with celebrity hype, they can create over this instant event vs. the problem we have here...I don't know. It actually just seems so instanely idiotic. I have been looking for mainstream blogs to speak out about this but they are no where to be found. I want people to discuss the "Millions" of lives in peril in America. Government, Banks, Corporations, celebrity worship and greed is killing the american people. I have friends and relatives dropping like flies from the poison in our foods, ho
Haiti in America's back yard
The weak person inside me says to quit today, but I won't give up the fight.
This was given to me by God, not man, and only if you would give $2 dollars out of what you would give to Haiti, we could clear up the homeless situation in the United States.
My heart goes out to Haiti in a major way and I am sympathetic, but what about here at home? I recently heard that Denver alone will bring $30 to $40M to help Haiti and we are just one city. The giving is beautiful to see, but we must help the homeless in the same way as the situation will only get worse if ignored.
Here in Denver they say they don't want the homeless in public places or loitering in parks so lets fine them $200 dollars, or throw them into jail, and of course they end up in jail as they do not have the money to pay the fine, remember they are homeless and jobless.
If it was me I would go to jail just to get food and shelter. I don't know if I am angry or depressed that George
