Hope for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

A Nutritional Suggestion to a Serious Nuisance

While I am not a medical doctor, I have researched brain disorders out of curiosity and have found some interesting data on Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, also known as OCD. If you have OCD and want a way to combat it without medicine, which by the way seems to be the prime choice, diet, exercise and meditation seem to help. If you find a holistic nutritionist willing to help you, you might find relief. Otherwise what Dr. Lesser wrote in The Brain Chemistry Plan might help too.

I know it can be debilitating living in excessive worry. I have been there. And meditation helps do wonders and might help you stop worrying enough to pick up some good habits. Such as eating a high protein diet low in red meat with no shellfish and with natural foods such as two servings of vegetables at each meal. This diet seems effective when combined with nutritional supplements of B1 Niacin, (no flush) if it bothers you with flush. B6, B complex, magnesium(chelated) and maybe some zinc.

You might want to limit grain and fruit and legumes, nuts and seeds to one serving a day and avoid too much tomatoes, potatoes, bananas, and grapes and raisins. Sometimes we are sensitive to what we eat. And too much white flour, white sugar and artificial sweeteners can harm us.

Sometimes we have to limit caffeine as well. But giving up these vices will be easier if you meditate and feel better after making these changes. It might be scary at first but if it helps it might be worth it. Sometimes other supplements might help if you ask a nutritionist they might be able to tell you if St. Johns Wort, Chamomile, Ginseng, passion flower, Kava, and valerian might help. They were recommended by Dr. Lesser and his book helps recommend various levels where appropriate.

You also might want to see if you have anemia, low thyroid, food allergies, and to check your histamine levels, adrenaline levels and Cortisol. You also might benefit to see if Candida yeast is a problem, which is often caused by too much unhealthy foods such as a lot of sugary foods.

While some people swear by medicine, if you have these problems including OCD, shouldn't you use good nutrition to fix them? It seems that it is dangerous to diet to extreme and be malnourished and develop unhealthy obsessions. I know some people go from being a protective steady mate to being an obsessive compulsive worrier.

Also breaking from routine and doing something spontaneous as well as doing a little exercise can help. I suggest you at least try to find a nutritionist of holistic doctor who will listen to you. After having been on medicine myself that only masked a nutritional deficiency. It is amazing what doctors will tell you when they don't really listen to your problems and label you something.

While some people swear by OCD medicine, you might want to check to see if there is something you can do if your chemistry is out of order. See a nutritionist if you can.
