With the fast pace of everyone's lives these day it seems that just about everybody has a cell phone these days. From kids to grandmothers it's just about the best way to get a hold of the ones you love. However there are a few places you can't really carry your blackberry. What about when you go out on your boat or Sea Doo. Sure, the idea to throw your $400 cell phone in a Ziploc has maybe crossed your mind young child goes on a field trip at the Zoo, you'd like to know if they're getting back early or late but you don't really want to send your phone with them, and they're too young to have their own.

Now you have some options. A company called Hop-on has developed a disposable cell phone. This little LCDless phone is a dual-band (900/1800Hz) that is based on Texas Instruments and Infineon chipsets. Now for about $20 you can buy up a number of these things and store them wherever you need to have an emergency phone. Keep some in the glove box, keep one in the boat, or take it out on the Sea Doo in that zip lock bag. If it gets wet your only out about $20. Send one with your kid when they go off to the Zoo and maybe you won't be sitting at the bus stop that extra hour because you hadn't heard they decided to stop at McDonalds and get dinner on the way back. It won't matter if they lose it because it was only a disposable.

Hop-on has had their phone released in Europe for only about two weeks and they've already seen 6 digit orders. They're having so much success with the new disposable phone they have to hire new staff just to keep up with the demand. Hop-on is concentrating their efforts on marketing the phone widely throughout the Middle East and Europe. Unfortunately they haven't started marketing it in the US but they say per their press release that it is something they're definitely planning on doing. They want to concentrate their efforts in the European market first and then bring it to the US when they're able to set up and do it the right way. Their ultimate goal is to make Hop-On a household name in both the European and American markets while branching out and offering additional products and services. While you can't run out to Wal-Mart and pick one up yet you'll have to have yours imported. Just make sure that you carrier is compatible with the dual band format.
