Horrible Restaurant: The Melting Pot

WRITER
Imagine going to a romantic restaurant for a date one evening. You think about the food they serve and look through their menu thousands of time on the internet. You call and make all the necessary reservations and send your kids off to the grandparents. Perhaps you even ate a light lunch so you would not be to full when your about to spend some money on the awesome dinner. The anticipation and hopes grow as the hours go by. However, what do you do when the restaurant is not all "that" like you planned?

The Melting Pot is located in 32 States. If you visit the company's website at www.meltingpot.com you can see the great excitement. The menu selection is just amazing. They serve fresh seafood from Lobster Tail and Shrimp. They also serve fresh beef and fowl. These items are cooked in flavored broth that you get to pick. The entrees are cooked at your table from a pot. Go with the three course menu.

You get to start out with the cheese fondue. The server will bring you some different blend of cheese and other ingredients. Then they will start to melt the cheese. The cheese fondue is terrible. The wine or beer that they put in there is way too much. All you taste is the liquor. It is literally taking a shot of alcohol with your bread.

The second course was the main entrée. They brought the raw meats on a plate. Chicken, seafood, pork, shrimp, and lobster all on one plate. That can be a contamination issue. The portion is really small about 3 oz. each. The server brings out a new pot and start mixing the ingredients together for your broth. First starts out with chicken broth, herbs, and spices that is a good start. Then all the sudden she pours half a red wine bottle in the pot. You put your meat in there to simmer. What comes out is red wine flavored food. It was absolutely horrible. The portion was not enough and we where still hungry. Not to mention that we ordered the biggest platter they served.

The last course is the dessert. They are known for their desserts. The server brought out a new pot and started melting the chocolate and caramel. However, the only thing that was given for dipping was a small slice of cheese cake, rice crispy treats, strawberry, marshmallow and banana. Literally two piece each. The dessert was mediocre.

The total cost of this horrible evening was $160.00 for two persons. I can promise you that the money could have gone to a nice Steak House and I would have been full. However, I left hungry and disappointed. I do not recommend The Melting Pot to anyone.

we went to the melting pot last night. HORRIBLE...for anyone who knows what good food is supposed to taste like. I would have been happier eating a sandwich. The worst part was the main course, chicken, lobster, steak, shrimp all sound good when you hear the sound, but when you pile them all into a pot and boil them up with some bad seasoning you get the flavor of a dirty dish rag. Never again will I spend money in this place. Cost us 150.00 and we left hungry cause the food taste like dish water. Not happy at all. My brother went there as well and he said that the main course wasn't tasty either, he told me just to get another flavor. There are only 4 choices of broth, i got a different one from what he got and it wasn't good so i would put my money that the other two tast somewhere between diswater and a dirty sock. Yuck!

First of all if you didn't like the cheese you should have told the server and they would have made the spinach artichoke cheese for you that has no alcohol and taste great. Knowing you weren't keen on the alcohol taste your server would have suggested changing your cooking style to the court bouillion or mojo, neither have alcohol. The chocolate is great! The items to dip into the chocolate include cheescake from the cheesecake factory, rice krispie treats, pound cake, brownies, marshmallows coated with oreo and graham cracker, strawberries, and bananas. They are bite size pieces because it is fondue. Hence dipping is involved. If you wanted more dippers then you could have asked your server. The dippers are unlimited. They portion dessert plates according to what most people eat. You post a bad review for a place and yet you obviously you did not ask you server anything nor answer any of their questions. They do a check back 2 minutes into serving your cheese to ask how you like it

With all the spelling errors, I can't take this review seriously. I go to the Melting Pot several times a year and it is always good.

How fat are you to still be hungry after that?

I was a bit afraid to read your review and thought you were going to give behind the scenes problems. I understand your position about small portions. I've recently been to a themed night and the price was discounted so it was worth it to me.

I am a server at the Melting Pot and I have experienced only one time in two years where one of my tables was unahppy with their meal. It is unheard of to leave there hungry. I don't know if you had a horrible server, but I think the food at the Melting Pot is amazing. I work there five days a week and would rather go there for dinner then any other place.

My husband and I have been to The Melting Pot a total of five times spread over 2 different locations. There is a reason we have been there so many times...we love the food and the social experience. Dining together like this is fun, though it's even better if you have extra people along. For the two of us, and not even the cheapest options, we spend an average of about $100. The atmosphere and service are great, the food is wonderful. Can't wait to go back again.

    Thanks for the warning!

Won't be going to this place. I guess the only thing worse is to make reservations at a nice restaurant and when you get there they don't have you down and there is no room!!!

Okay. For anyone interested...Come to my house for dinner. I can give you really crappy food for less.
