Horror Movie Party Ideas

Here are three horror movie party ideas that can be implemented for different aspects of your event. Well known movie scenes and their characters can be used to create an exciting atmosphere for guests at your party. Find ways to use horror movie elements for everything from the costume requests and food to movie games, during your entire party planning process.

Horror Movie Party Ideas for a Dress Code

Require guests to wear costumes that resemble horror movie characters or villains from sci-fi, thriller or fantasy films when they attend your party. The costumes should be characters that are easily identifiable based on the movies that they are from. The killer in "Scream" or classic horror movie characters such as Freddy Kruger from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" or Jason Voorhees from "Halloween" could be worn to follow a strict dress code that compliments the theme of your party. Verify all costumes that guests plan on wearing to your party to reduce the likelihood that multiple men or women will arrive as the same horror movie character.

Horror Movie Party Ideas for the Décor

Create an atmosphere that is inspired by horror movies in different areas of your party location. All party food can be served in an area labeled "Elm Street" while your drinks are served in a pet cemetery inspired by a "Pet Sematary" movie of the same name. Instruct guests to dig up their drinks from a makeshift grave where toy cats and other animals are also buried if you want to turn the basic chore of serving into a fun activity that everyone can enjoy. You can also provide a map to guests upon their arrival, helping them to navigate through different areas of the party location. Turn one room or area of the party into a haunted house that guests must visit to receive party favors or forms of entertainment such as magic tricks performed by clowns or wizards.

Horror Movie Party Games

Hire actors to play horror movie victims and perform select film scenes in different areas of your party location. Display a brief description of their horrifying encounter on a poster and instruct guests to guess the name of the movie where each murder or attack scene took place. Give one prize to the first guest who correctly identifies all of these movies or to several guests who are the first to correctly identify one particular scene within a specific time frame designated by you.
