Colorado is horse riding country. You will not live here very long before the horse bug bites you. If you don't own a horse, you might end up buying one or renting a horse for trail rides. If you own a horse and riding lessons interest you, here are a few stables that will get you started.

Colorado Natural Horsemanship Center Calhan,Colorado

CNHC is located in Calhan, Colorado Calhan is about thirty minutes away from Colorado Springs. They provide riding lessons and horse training as well.

The training philosophy at CNHC is described as natural horsemanship training. It's the belief of Jim Rea, director of CNHC, that horses already do what we want them to do; we merely teach the horse to do it when we want.

The price for western style lessons is $45.00 for a thirty minute private lesson on your personal horse. If you would like to use a CNHC horse for your lesson, the price is $60.00 per private lesson.

Group lessons are available at the price of $185.00 a month for four students, four times a month

Eques Training, Franktown, Colorado

Star Hughes, chief riding instructor for Eques Training, holds certifications in the American Riding Instructors Association and North American Riding for the Handicapped Association in addition to other certifications.

Eques Training provides riding instructions for youngsters three and up. The lessons are divided by age group.

Ages three-six, small groups are $100.00 a month and meet one for one hour, once a week

Ages three-six, private lessons are $125.00 a month that includes a thirty minute lesson, once per week.

Ages seven -nine, private lessons are $135 a month for a one hour weekly lesson

Highlands Ranch Community Association - Denver, Colorado

Bear Creek Stables sits at the gateway to mountain country. You can take a trail ride in the BackCountry wilderness area and get a chance to see any number of wildlife on your trail ride.

Trail rides are available Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Tuesday-Thursday, 1 hour rides for $35
Friday-Sunday, 1.5 hour rides for $50

In addition to trail rides, HRCA offers riding lessons.

Beginning riding lessons start at ages five-seven
This is an introduction class. The riders learn grooming, handling skills, daily demonstrations, hands on practice and more.

The next age group is eight -fourteen. The same horsemanship skills are taught in this age group as in the five-seven group.

HRCA also has intermediate lessons with the same age range. The lessons cover, bareback riding, saddling, and the introduction of rein use. The intermediate class does have beginning horsemanship as a perquisite. If you would like information on intermediate riding lesson's call, 303-471-8818
