This state park has some amazing views of the mountains and the grass is as green as I've seen in a very long time. They have many picnic tables for people to enjoy and they have a nice green area for softball or just the kids to toss around a Frisbee.
This park also has a horse shoe area set up for everyone's enjoyment. They have restrooms on the premises as well as several boat launching areas for those that enjoy fishing. If you do come here for fishing they have a cleaning station available for your fish cleaning needs.
I found that the facts they have along side the park of Lewis and Clark's journey as well as all the Native American rock carvings were an incredible piece of history that I under normal circumstances would not have got to see if it was not for the fact this park has conserved some of these great pieces of history.
The lake is absolutely huge. We walked down to the boat launch and was able to see a bunch of water ducks swimming by. This lake according to the web site is about 90 acres. their site is www.stateparks.com
You can also come when the weather is nice and enjoy their camping facilities. We found they even have a dumping station here for those that do travel with their campers. There is a ranger on site which we love and there is surveillance cameras in some of the areas of the parks, another plus for me.
Make sure to bring your camera for some amazing pictures of some of the rocks and carvings. There is also areas for you to hike should you have a desire to explore some. There are also a bunch of pretty river rocks lying around that are amazing to look at, because they have so many different shapes and take on a form of their own.
This park is a great place to hold a family reunion, but I do know it's on a first come, first serve basis. So plan your next weekend getaway or birthday party for the kids here at the park and plan on arriving early to grab your table.
This State Park is only 6 miles from down town The Dalles and 3 miles from Murdock and 5 miles from Lyle Washington. Next time you are passing through and have not yet visited this amazing piece of history stop by and see for yourself why this place gives you a touch of serenity as you watch the ducks float by.
