"Horton Hears a Who" is a Good Movie Among Few

Horton (Jim Carrey) hears a Who on a speck that floats by his ears. He chases and catches this speck on a clover all the while talking about how there's someone on that speck. With nefarious hops Kangaroo (Carol Burnett) came right over and demanded no such talk of someone living on a speck. Horton Hears a Who.

I love Dr. Seuss books. I really like this story and I like Sussical the Musical because they use this story as a main premise. Suffice it to say it could very well be my favorite story from Dr. Seuss. Simply put I liked this movie and I intend on buying it for several reasons that I'm going to list for all to know.

Jim Carrey preformed well. His voice was every bit as fluffed as his characters personality was docile. Steve Carell voiced Mayor of Who-ville and he fit with his voice so urgent with whiplash like momentum. Seth Rogen voiced Morton this small little rodent who zipped all about but spoke like he was a turtle. Seth did a good job of passing on his humor self with facial expressions and all; via his own voice. It was an amazing feat. Will Arnett voice Vlad (bad Vlad) and that's amusing just hearing him speak in that accent. He has a whole voice makeover that works well. Jesse McCartney voiced JoJo who is mainly mute throughout the entire film and when he does speak he ends up doing what? That's right singing. Ha.

I have left the best for last and that is Carol Burnett. I love her and find her to be a very funny person but while I watched this film she was my least favorite character and it had everything to do with her voice and how she said things. Her condescending, manipulative nature was just so vicious that it was astonishing. She's not on the screen it's just her voice. If someone can be nominated for 8 minutes on film for Best Supporting Actress, then surely it is possible for someone doing a voice to garner a nomination. Yes this is me stating that I think Carol Burnett deserves to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her voice role as the Kangaroo.

There is a character by the name of Katie and she's some sort of animal. I don't know what kind but some kind and she's the weirdest character in animation I've seen to date. She does the weirdest things and maybe it's just weird because she just has this freaky look. I really laughed at her. She's just not expected. One time she backs up into a bush and that sounds normal but it sure doesn't look normal. Towards the end of the film she floats and it's just bizarre in a fun way. Hers are some of my favorite scenes.

Horton Hears a Who is a movie that uses its time well and does not drag on and on. There are several good scenes. One is where Horton talks about good Vlad and bad Vlad. When the Mayor of Who-ville is introduced with all his kids and when he tries to tell the council that they have to cancel an event just in case. That scene is just funny. Boob is a funny word and I've never used it as a name for someone's, ineptness but this movie sure made a strong case for how much fun it would be to do so. I really like the climax of this film. I like the suspenseful nature it mustered and was a tad surprised that it was that well done.

Horton Hears a Who is a fun movie and I enjoyed it a lot. I will buy it because I will feel sad one day and then pop in the DVD and watch Katie and feel better. I might just be alone in that but she just killed me. This is a good movie for parents because not only is it well done for kids it's something you could enjoy as well. It's hard to find those movies where the kids are entertained and it's clean, while at the same time entertain the adults. Horton Hears a Who is a good movie, how rare and how few in this time of bad movies so many; boohoo.
