Nurses Choice issued a voluntary recall February 15 for approximately 4,700 pairs of white cotton infant mittens. The Newborn Keepsake Mittens were distributed for free in maternity wards across the United States between October 2010 and January 2011.
What's wrong with the Newborn Keepsake Mittens?
Apparently, the holiday appliques on the thumb-less mitts may fall off and become choking hazards for little ones. The glued-on winter holiday appliques include candy canes, teddy bears and a New Year's "2011" design.
Nurses Choice has received at least one report of a holiday applique decoration becoming detached from one of these white cotton infant mittens. Fortunately, no actual injuries have been reported so far.
The voluntary recall, issued cooperatively with the Consumer Products Safety Commission (SPSC), offers free replacement mittens, which sport stitched-on decorations instead.
Anyone still possessing the Newborn Keepsake Mittens is advised to stop using the baby handwear immediately and to call Nurses Choice (1-800-747-7076) or the Consumer Products Safety Commission (1-800-638-2772) to ask for replacement sets. Both telephone numbers are toll-free, and calls are accepted during regular business hours.
Replacement product requests may also be made by e-mail (info@nurses-choice.com).
In addition, the Consumer Products Safety Commission is collecting online reports of incidents or possible injuries associated with the recalled cotton Newborn Keepsake Mittens.
Parents should not donate the original Newborn Keepsake Mittens to charities.
It is illegal in the United States to resell recalled products, so those still possessing the Nurses Choice Newborn Keepsake Mittens are advised to discard them. These recalled baby items do not belong in garage sales, resale shops, family shelters, thrift stores or yard sales.

These recalls are unbelievable.
Wow, there is always a safety issue it seems. Maybe companies need to be more cognizant of what they manufacture.
Very helpful information! Safety first I always practice.
