Hostage Starring Bruce Willis

Possibly One of Bruce Willis's Biggest Adventures

Jason Freeden

When I walked in to watch this movie, I had high expectations for it. Bruce Willis has always been one of my favorite actors, and in this movie he would sure get to prove to other people who thought otherwise. This action\thriller has so many twists that it will leave you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire movie.

Willis who starred in movies such as Tears of the Sun, Hart's War, The Sixth Sense, and Armageddon returns in Hostage as Hostage Negotiator Jeff Talley. He has been doing this for many years, and hasn't failed once, until one day hell reigns down up on him, and literally blows it right in his face.

Without spoiling the movie too much, Talley fails to save this young boy and his mother from the man holding the two hostage, so throwing away his negotiator career he turns to another profession, a Cop of Bristo Camino, California. Living alone, his wife and daughter put a huge amount of pressure on him, with everything going on in his life and all. The first turn of events happen when he young girl flips off these young guys sitting in a truck.

Walter Smith, the father of this young girl and a young boy lives in a rich suburb of California, so these guys decide to follow them. The boys hold this family hostage, and Willis is notified. Throughout the whole movie they focus on this family, but what they do not know is that Smith was an accountant for a group of rich criminals. Off the job, Talley decides to get something to eat, and with the Sheriff's Department at the Smith's house, things start to get interesting.

Held at gunpoing in his own car, he finds out his family is now at risk, so without anyone knowing, Talley must recover a couple of DVD's with some important information in them to save his family, by risking the lives of this other family. Serving near impossible this is one journey that sounds too hard to be true.

This would definitely fall under the grit your teeth, suspense type of movie, while it not being horror, it still leaves you wondering throughout the whole film. When I went to see it, I was trying to think to myself all of the possible ways he can get out of this situation, and for every situation, every way to make it better, or solve it. As I said before Willis is one of my favorite actors, and he sure proved that he could handle the pressure in this movie.

Many movie critics were spread out with there reviews about this movie. Some were more generous than others, and some were just plain harsh. The fact of the matter is, you have to be into these types of movies. Most movies have one simple plot, while this has so many twists, that you just don't know what is going to happen.

Even though this might not be an Oscar oriented movie, it still will keep you occupied, and entertained. Willis has starred in many Oscar oriented movies, but I think he was focusing on the improbability of trying to save both families, and the different strategies he must use to do so. Florent Siri, the director of the movie Hostage did a very good job on his first American made movie, so two thumbs up to him! I will not spoil anything about this movie, so here goes.

When you watch the entire movie, you will literally never guess what happens at the end. That is a bit of a cliffhanger, as you try to think to yourself why it ended so confusing, yet it really was very clear. Overall I rate this movie a 7 out of 10, it wasn't the best in Willis's movies, but he did a great job, and for a first time American Director, certainly did his best on entertaining the crowd.
