Hosting a Houston, Texas Spring Garden Bridal Shower

Sally Ann Murphy
Springtime in Houston, Texas is the perfect season for holding a garden bridal shower. Unlike other regions of the country, by spring many garden flowers will be in full, riotous bloom, with color and fragrance filling the air at every turn. The weather is warm but not yet hot, and the Houston, Texas spring is usually filled with plenty of sunny days for hosting a garden bridal shower. For tips on hosting the perfect Houston, Texas spring garden bridal shower, see below.

Decorations
. Flowers, of course! The fresh flowers, herbs and greenery that you can choose from in the spring in Houston, Texas are practically endless. If you don't have enough in your own garden, just visit your local nursery or garden center. Bluebonnets, of course, are the quintessential Texas flower. Also try Daffodils, Daisies, Gerbera, and Narcissus. Pansies and Poppies will be in full bloom, as will Camellias and Magnolias, perfect for a spring bridal shower. You can choose flowers that bloom in your bride-to-be's wedding colors, or just use soft pinks, lavenders, and cream colored flowers for the perfect Houston, Texas garden shower touch!

Distribute your flowers in watering cans and terra cotta pots, and if you have (or purchase) a small wooden wheelbarrow you can fill this with flowering pots for a lovely Houston, Texas spring bridal shower decoration. A sweet wooden wheelbarrow, painted white, also makes a lovely gift table for a Houston, Texas garden bridal shower (or if the new couple are gardeners, use a real red wheelbarrow!) Another adorable decoration is tiny garden tools, available at Houston, Texas craft stores, tied together with raffia and a few dried herbs. Don't forget to decorate your garden trellis if you have one. Vines such as Vinca, Honeysuckle, and Pandorea should all be blooming in the Houston, Texas spring now.

Favors. Purchase tiny terra cotta pots and fill them with native plants, with Texas Bluebonnets or Texas Bluebells making lovely bridal shower choices. Tie raffia and twine around the pots for a more rustic look. You can also purchase small watering cans and tuck napkin or tissue paper wrapped jelly beans or other candies inside for an adorable garden party favor. Tiny wheelbarrows also do the trick wonderfully for this Houston, Texas spring bridal shower favor. Color coordinate the candies and tissue paper or napkins with the bride's colors, or just keep the with the soft color scheme chosen for the flowers.

Menu. Keep your Houston, Texas spring garden bridal shower menu simple and southern. Serve lemonade and sweet tea, of course. Serve plenty of seasonal fresh vegetables, both in salads, side dishes, and appetizers. Fresh green beans, onions, lettuce, beets, and other spring harvest vegetables should all be available for using in your Houston, Texas garden bridal shower menu. For dessert, try a fresh berry cheesecake.

I attended a wedding where the favors were little plants in cute little pots. It's a nice gesture.
