Hot Baby Names for 2009

Erica B.
As 2008 is winding down, and 2009 is growing close, we are ready to a beginning of a new year and new styles. This year it's about individuality and creativity. We can kiss those tradtional, old-fashioned names goodbye and look forward to the new styles of the new year.

For the year 2009, people aren't reaching for the "baby name book" to find that perfect name for their child. They are wanting something different, something less ordinary. They are digging deeper and looking toward other sources for that perfect name. From celebrity names such as Scarlett and Angelina to american idol names such as Jordin and Carrie, the style for 2009 isn't just one particular style. Popular for this year are a variety of styles from superhero names, Logan, Phoenix, to foreign ones, Madeline, Juliette. Parents magazine online has predicted some hot naming trends for 2009, a variety of styles, something for everyone.

Place names such as Denver, Dallas, Jordan, Houston, & Brooklyn are predicted to be a hot choice for boys, and names such as Sydney, Dakota, London, & Savannah are predicted to be hot picks for girls.

The celebrity impact for name choices is huge for 2009. This year you will see names from popular television shows such as Grey's Anatomy, Addison, Callie, & Jackson. Celebrity names such as Jude, Ethan, & Ashton, and Cameron, Drew, & Halle are boiling, and the names of the movie stars children are on fire - Miley, Shiloh, Jayden, Nahla, Harlow, & Valentina.

Preppy names are predicted to be a huge hit, Bennett, Stanford, Brody, Talan, Brady, Marshall, Harrison, & Barron for boys, and Grace, Kinsleigh (Kinsley), Kendall, Chandler, Avery, Brynley, & Paige for girls.

Nature lover names, with cute choices such as, River, Greene, Clay, & Blue for boys, and Sky, Lily, Star, Heaven, & Winter for girls.

Remember that names are lifelong, so pick one wisely for your child. You want your child to love and appreciate their name, a name that they won't get teased for in school, a name that isn't too hard to pronounce. When choosing a name, make sure it's not too long - think about all the forms and papers your child will be filling out throughout their life. Also, think about nicknames they may be given during childhood. A lot of people use the shortened form of longer names. So, for example, if you don't want your kid to be called Sam, then don't name her Samantha. Think about what initials they would have if you were to give them a particular name. Does it spell a word? Can it be embarrassing to have ELK or CAR sketched in your jewelry? There are lots of things to keep in mind when choosing a name.
