Hot Dog Heaven Makes Amherst, Ohio, a Road Food Destination
Hot Dogs Are in the Name, but the Fresh Cut Fries Are the Star at HDH
What began in an old house on Amherst's Cleveland Avenue in 1976, continues today as a fine purveyor of hot dogs as well as some of the best fresh cut fries in the United States.
The Best Fresh Cut French Fries in Ohio?
Hot Dog Heaven's menu is obviously focused on hot dogs. Their standard dog sports a clean taste; serving nicely as a french fry chaser. A quarter-pound version of the normal hot dog is available, as well as the all-beef quarter-pound, "The Clevelander," which comes with Northeastern Ohio's legendary Stadium Mustard.
A whole host of toppings, including chili sauce, are available for the hot dogs for no charge. Cheese, sauerkraut, cole slaw, and bacon are available for an extra fee.
Jumbo kielbasa is also on the menu for those desiring a taste of the Cleveland area's Eastern European ethnicity. Other menu entries include hamburgers, fish and chicken, but the name of the place is Hot Dog Heaven.
Considering the high quality of Hot Dog Heaven's fresh cut french fries, maybe French Fry Heaven would be a better name? The fries are fresh cut daily, fried in vegetable oil, and feature an excellent flavor unique to this Northern Ohio eatery. The fries alone are worth the trip to Amherst.
Two Ohio Locations for Hot Dog Heaven
Hot Dog Heaven now features two locations. The original is still in that same old house on Cleveland Avenue in Amherst, while a second location was opened in nearby Avon, which is not the Sandstone Center of the World.
There are other restaurants named Hot Dog Heaven, but none top the Amherst, Ohio original. Come for the fries and stay for the hot dogs and sandstone!
