Steven Hayes Sentenced to Death

Steven Hayes, one of the two men accused of killing 3 members of one family and severely injuring the fourth in 2007, has been sentenced to death in New Haven, CT. The jury deliberated for three days. According to jury members who appeared on 'The Today Show' this morning, they took their time to make their decision. Each jury member made the decision on his or her own. No one forced anyone to make a decision. The six members of the jury looked tired, but relieved. They know they made the right decision and they can live with it. They asked the judge if they could meet with Petit after the trial ended and the judge arranged it. Petit was very thankful to the jury members for their dedication and hard work. I can only imagine the emotions that filled the room.

Steven Hayes killed three members of William Petit's family; his wife and two daughters in the most violent manner. Petit was severely injured and had been left to die also, but he didn't. Petit has been in court and saw it through, for his wife and daughters, to the end. Now that Hayes has been convicted and sentenced, it isn't over. The Petit family will have to go through this again with the second man involved, Joshua Komisarjevsky, who was the 'mastermind' of the crime, when he goes to trial next year.

Connecticut now has 10 men on death row. Only one man has been executed since 1960. Hayes may wind up spending the remainder of his life on death row due to appeals. At least he will never hurt anyone again; at least the world is safe from Steven Hayes.

On a much lighter note....

AARP - A membership benefit is saving money!

I've been a member of AARP since the day I turned 50 and that was, well it was years ago. I joined basically for the benefits, which I sure don't pay enough attention to all the time.

FYI for all you AARP members, there is a program with Walgreens that will save you money. When you show Walgreens your AARP membership card when you check out, you will receive something back:

* A coupon for $3 off your next purchase when you buy $10 worth of Walgreen products. This is valid now through November 20, 2010.

* Make any purchase at Walgreens and receive a coupon for 25 free 4 x 6 digital photos. This is valid now through January 1, 2011.
