Editorial - Hot News Quickies - Friday, July 31, 2009
It is the last day of July, can you believe that? Where is the time going? Down here school starts in August, early August. So get those school supplies and be prepared. One thing I noticed is that stores like Walmart post the school supply lists, by grade and by school. That sure must be helpful to the parents. I never remember seeing anything like that back in Jersey. So enjoy the weekend and what is left of the kids' summer vacation. You will miss them when they go back to school! Really, you will, for a day or two anyway!

This-N-That - Hot News Quickies - Friday, July 31, 2009

* Wow Dow - The close on Thursday showed a 84 point gain.

* Income Taxes are being raised in California (gee what a surprise) along with Hawaii, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Oregon and Wisconsin. Tennessee has no state income tax, another reason we moved here.

* Red Sox drug problems - Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz both tested positive in 2003, which means they were on drugs when Boston won it's 2004 Championship. The use of banned substances by professional sports figures has to stop. Whey can't these guys, who are making money hand over fist, play their sport without using artificial aids? Do they think they won't get caught? Don't they realize how many little kids look up to them? It's a shame, a real shame.

* The couple we love to hate, or ½ of the couple anyway, Jon Gosselin was spotted paying with his kids. They were having a scavenger hunt at the "mansion", perhaps looking for Jon and Kate's lost brain cells and the kids' lost innocence?

Trivia Answers - Hot News Quickies - Friday, July 31, 2009
1. Christopher Columbus introduced pigs to North America.
2. 10 band members are needed to be considered a big band.
3. Antarctica has the fewest flowering plants.
4. It does not and no one knows why.
5. A horse cannot vomit.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Greenhill, when I lived in California I used to lose almost 40% of my salary in various taxes - another reason why I moved to Thailand, where taxes currently are 10% for my income level and a lot lower for those who make less. Interesting article :-)
