Hot Summer Fragrances for Women

Julie Boehlke
Summer is here, and we are all concerned about looking good, having the perfect hairstyle, the cutest outfit and the trendiest bag. Seemingly enough we end up scouring the malls and our favorite department stores for the best of the best and the latest fashion styles. If we happen to end up at the fragrance counter, where the trendy little gal pitches her best sales spiel and we end up with a pretty bottle of the best smelling stuff, free cosmetics and of course empty pocket books. A few hundred bucks later we are walking away feeling new and powerful, having found the perfect scent. For some it completes the package of the whole shopping experience.

Fragrances are broken down in three different categories. The true definition of Perfume tends to be the most expensive and is a concentrated form of pure fragranced oil. Perfume sometimes can be referred to as the generic term for all fragrances. Eau de Parfum has a much lighter scent than true perfumes; it can also be very strongly scented. The term for cologne can also be called Eau de Toilette, and has a very low concentration of scent. Cologne is a hot seller and admired at most major Department Stores, where they are more appealing to the pocket book for the average consumer.

Cologne ads take the advertising lead in store displays, billboards and also in many popular magazines, with everything from sexy couples to cute little puppies being admired by the beholder, basing the concept around that fragrance brings us love, admiration and beauty.

So what are the hottest bodies wearing this season? From the Big Apple to Rodeo Drive and everywhere in between, here are some of the most popular scents that seem to be flying off the shelves.

True Star by Tommy Hilfiger with notes of honeysuckle, sweet pea, wheat, syringa, and florals, retails for around $75.00.

Tommy Bahama Very Cool by Tommy Bahama also retails for around $75.00.

Romance by Ralph Lauren, is a charming evening cologne with scents of fresh rose, ginger, marigold, violet, oak moss and musk, very sultry but yet feminine. Reminiscent of two lovers reflecting on years gone by.

Euphoria by Calvin Klein, retails for around $55.00 and has hints of black violet, pomegranate, black orchid, mahogany wood, persimmon, and lotus blossom. Very Romantic and perfect for the special anniversary or first date.

One of the newest fragrances behind the glass is Beautiful Love by Estee Lauder, retailing for around $45.00. This fragrance has strong floral notes, but with a subtle fragrance to liven the senses. Sure to be a classic favorite for years to come.

Many designers like Calvin Klein have markets in women's as well as men's colognes. These days couples tend to pair up on their favorite scents and many share the same name. Calvin Klein makes several women's colognes such as Obsession, Eternity, Eternity One and Truth, following with the men's favorites, Obsession for men, Obsession Night for men, and Eternity for men. Not to mention CK One, a fragrance to be worn by a man or a woman. Calvin Klein ranks supreme in the fragrance world and is also in an affordable price bracket.

Some female celebs have even taken on the fragrance industry, such as Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton, JLO and even Beyonce with her fragrance called True Star, which retails for about $25.00. Showing that any of us can afford to at least smell like a Hollywood jet setter.

If you want to stick to the basics you can have your hand at creating your very own fragrance at the body shop. www.thebodyshop.com

You can really start from scratch here, using their custom fragrance kits. Mix and match scents to create something that matches your own personal style.

What you decide to name it is up to you.

So whatever your mood or desire, there is plenty of choices when it comes to finding the right scent for summer!

I'm like Summer, I've been known to sneak some of my daughter's Baby Soft from time to time :-) My new favorite fragrance is Lucky #6.

I can't believe smelling good costs so much. I light the body sprays for summer. Lemon, grapefruit, rain, melon, are some of my faves.
