Management
Management positions are broken down into departments. The General Manager oversees operations of every department in the hotel, as well as deals with guests if the situation calls for it. The Hotel Manager oversees the operations of the hotel itself, specifically regarding guests ant guestrooms. The Food and Beverage manager oversees the operations of any on-premise restaurants, bars and room service. The Sales Manager is responsible for the sales team, groups department, weddings department and any other sales-oriented department the hotel may have.
Customer Service
Customer service jobs refer to positions that deal directly with guests. The doorman, if the hotel employs one, is the very first hotel employee that a guest will meet. Bell hops or porters are the employees that take care of the luggage for guests, such as bringing it up to their rooms. The front desk clerk checks guests in and out, as well as answers the telephone when guests call down for service. Reservationists are the employees that take the hotel reservations from the guests or their travel agents.
Housekeeping and Maintenance
In order to keep hotel operations running smoothly, a hotel may employ a variety of employees to take care of the little things that guests expect and take for granted. Housekeepers clean the hotel rooms, hallways, conference rooms and public areas of the hotel. Maintenance workers take care of the technical difficulties a guest may have in their room, such as a clogged toilet or an outlet that doesn't work. A laundry valet attends to the fry cleaning or laundry needs that a guest may have.
