Hotel De La Paix, a Modern Place in Historic Reims
This Ultra Modern Hotel is Environmentally Friendly
This hotel is conveniently located, only a five minute walk from the TGV train station where you can take the high speed train to Paris in 45 minutes. It has 169 rooms which are modern and roomy (by European standards). Wi-Fi is free and it works well. Rooms also have flat screen televisions and minibars. Suites are available with more space, terraces and sofas. Hotel de la Paix also offers accessible rooms for the physically challenged.
The hotel has a cocktail bar and Restaurant Café de la Paix, which they refer to as a brasserie. Its menu ranges from sandwiches to seafood dishes and there is outside seating when the weather is good. There's also a breakfast room where there's a wonderful spread that includes all the French breakfast treats you could want - pan au chocolate, cheese, fruit, yogurt, cereal and plenty of café au lait.
Keeping Green is something this hotel prides itself on. It provides guests with suggestions on helping out, such as using the bin in the room for recyclables like paper and plastic and putting garbage in the bathroom pail. There is a recycle bin at the front desk if you have any used batteries and Linens are only replaced every other day unless you request it more often. As for electricity, there is a spot to put your key on the wall when you enter the room to turn the electric on. When you take the key out to leave it will turn everything off. It's a great energy saver, but not so good if you planned on charging a phone or computer while you were out of the room.
Downstairs by the garden, Hotel de la Paix has a small indoor heated pool, as well as a Jacuzzi and fitness center. The hotel also has a conference center where it frequently holds seminars. From the Hotel de la Paix you are in the middle of downtown Reims and can walk to all the attractions, including the Notre-Dame Cathedral. The front desk can also help you make arrangements if you wish to visit any of the regions champagne houses.
