Looking for a place to stay in Floyd, Virginia? Hotel Floyd is the only lodging that compliments the town, the people, and their efforts to build a sustainable community.
When you arrive in the Town of Floyd, expect to be taken back to an era of days gone by, while eagerly embracing life laid back.
Isolated in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Floyd barely makes a speck on map America, yet people from areas all over the world visit weekly. Whether you plan a trip to Floyd, or discover it from a turn off the beaten path, one day will most certainly leave you longing for more. Central to the town, Hotel Floyd is a mom and pop style inn and walking-distance to everything. It allows guests to experience the culture of Floyd from within, after the lights go down at night.
The Town of Floyd was recently showcased in Mother Earth News' collection of six sustainable communities, titled "6 Great Places You've (Maybe) Never Heard Of." The article recognized Floyd for its efforts of maintaining a sustainable community. Hotel Floyd also practices the same endeavors to support sustainability within the community.
In establishing a green inn, Hotel Floyd implemented a GeoExchange Heating and Cooling System, high-quality low-flush toilets, low-water shower heads, eco-friendly paints, sustainable fabrics, countertops made from Marmoleum and Paperstone, bamboo floors, extra insulation and soundboard, all which compliment the environment without sacrificing quality.
If you're concerned that these refinements render Hotel Floyd second-rate, think again. When you step into your room, there's an immediate sense of excellence that emulates the comfort and serenity often associated with the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Hotel Floyd helps maintain local resources by decorating with local, original art, pottery and sculptures; from crocheted doilies to the hardwood bamboo floors. Each room embraces a specific theme relative to the community and state of Virginia, such as the Jacksonville Center for the Arts, Floyd Artists, Floyd Writers, Bell Gallery, Chateau Morisette, Malawi and the Floydfest. The rooms are just as unique and contain furniture designed and built by Floyd locals-Phoenix Hardwoods, Highland Hardwoods and Blue Ridge Upholstery.
The description of Hotel Floyd may leave an impression of unaffordable rates. However, price is the inn's most remarkable feature-considering the quality, service and "green" implementations-as you will pay no more, and most often less, than most rates offered by chain hotels.
Hotel Floyd's saying is, "Put up your feet and rest a 'spell." While the laid back community will make you feel just that, I think it would be pretty fitting to add, "You're gonna wish it was home."
