Hotel Management Review

A Simulation Game

Timothy Liu
Hotel Management is a flash animation simulation game created by sponsored by Flonga Games. This hotel game was submitted to Newgrounds.com on November 9, 2009 and won a Daily Feature award on November 10, 2009.

Background

You are an employee at a brand new hotel. Your job is to keep the customers happy by catering to their needs as quickly as you can. The faster you satisfy the customers, the more they will tip.

Gameplay

The goal of Hotel Management is to satisfy your customers by providing quality hotel room service. This game is entirely a clicking game. As customers walk through the hotel's entrance, you are responsible for them. The first step is to click on the customer(s), then click reception to get them their room key. Then direct the customer to the corresponding room. From there, the room will have various symbols pop up that indicate that the customer(s) wants something. You may have to do their laundry, or clean their rooms, or direct them to the restaurant, or escort them outside. Depending on the facilities of your hotel, you may have more commands options available. Because this is a hotel, you will also be dealing with more than one room, which means you have to be fast at clicking.

When you first play, you can choose to play with hints on. If you turn this option on, during the game, you will see little notifications that will guide you through the game. This can be helpful for first time users. You can end the tutorial in-game as well when you think you have got the hang of things.

Each day, you will be given a Day Objective list, which will tell you the current day, your money target, and time limit. Your goal for each day is also listed at the top of the screen, next to Objective. Earnings for each day are listed to the left of the sound toggle button. The current day is displayed between these two values.

At the end of the day, you will receive your daily report, showing you statistics of your earnings that day. The report will show what your objective money target was, the amount you earned, and the total amount you have. The report will also let you know if you have gained any new upgrades that can be bought and added to the hotel.

Upgrades include anything from more rooms to a hotel gymnasium. You can also improve facilities if that option is unlocked. Note: adding more facilities will mean you have to cater to more desires.

Different customers will have special things about them. Some tip more, some are more patient. Keep this in mind as you play the game to prioritize where you put your time and energy.

The faster you tend to customers, the higher the tip you will receive. Work quickly to maximize your earnings. During your daily report screen, you have the option to replay the level, make upgrades, or continue to the next day.

Review

Hotel Management is a typical simulation game, where the goal is to just satisfy customers to meet a target goal. The game is not complicated. The only difficulty is catering to everyone's needs in an efficient manner. Naturally, as the game progresses, the difficultly level increases, as there will be more customers with a larger variety of demands. Because of the many upgrades, Hotel Management manages to break the repetitiveness of the game, but not for long. Even with the prospect of more upgrades, the game has no other enticements. However, it is a good game for those looking to play something sweet and simple.

Hotel Management scores a 7/10. A more interactive upgrading system, and more game hurdles, would increase the challenge of the game and its replay value.
